Hi all,

The 2227380, the generator and the dome car arrived, the color looks good.  I'll take a closer look and a better picture later, unless someone beats me to it.  I'll will also report back on the sounds.  The engines A &B and remaining passenger cars are suppose to be here the end of November according to the receipt.Aberdeen

Aberdeen Carolina & Western Dome Car at Legacy StationAberdeen Carolina & Western at Mint Hill Sept. 17, 2022

I have that on pre-order and here's a photo from Legacy Station.  I, too, think they got the colors right compared to the photo I got with my phone last month.

I'm really looking forward to having these run on our club layout in Mebane, NC, which is only 2 hours away from the ACW.

Hi Bill.

I was able to place an order with Steve (Mr Muffin) for this set. I have to assume ( I know) they are being produced. I know they are hard as hens teeth to find for pre-order.

Are those the only 18" cars in this offering? The 21" are to big for my needs.

Like many others - I found the color scheme captivating. My goal is to put this two car set together with many different passenger cars for one heck of an eclectic consist.

Sal - will the LCCA announce their offering soon?

Has there been any update on sku 2227390, the Aberdeen Carolina & Western 18” Passenger Car 2 Pack? Will it still be released?

Legacy Station told me that the reason the listing for those is no longer visible on their site (the listing is absent from Trainworld as well) is that all of the pre-orders are sold out.  Also, according to Trainworld that 2-car set should be arriving by 2/28/23, so I'm optimistic that it will be shipping to us soon.  I can't wait to run the F9s with all 4 cars at my local club layout (TheMebaneTrainDisplay.com).

Today at the LCCA Lionel Seminar they had the new AC&W E units and they looked so sharp! The design team during the tour mentioned Lionel sent China the exact same "Raspberry" color on two sheets of metal to ensure the colors are correct! Happy Railroading!20230726_175516

Oh boy. That’s not the final look of the top detail is it? It looks doesn’t look accurately painted. Looks way too light of a grey.

Sadly that is the final look. Lionel employees from the Concord store have shared pictures on FB of the final delivered product.

Based on the engines at the railroad, the top pieces should all be black.

I'm shocked that no one at Lionel asked the intention of how they were going to paint the roofs of their new E8s. From shop pictures I had thought it was just primer but figured ACWR and Lionel would have coordinated more.

Happy I have the F units, this is a huge miss fire.

I guess I’m not alone on wondering why the E8s, if that is the completed product by Lionel doesn’t match the one E8 AC&W is operating.

I have a couple different perspectives on it. Of course, these being models, I’d like them to be  as accurate within reason, with that color being so unique, I think I can live with it being an eastern NC resident.

One, the videos of AC&W E8 103 in operation came after the Lionel Catalog. Depending however the timeline fell, maybe AC&W did plan to paint the units with the magenta roof?

Two, maybe AC&W 101 will have a magenta roof?

Third perspective is, maybe that isn’t the finale product by Lionel. I saw a mention of the Concord Lionel Store posting a finale product picture but I couldn’t find it.

Here's a screen shot of a video CountryBunkers train posted of a visit to the Lionel Retail Store.

Looks like that the color of the top. Again possibly pre-production models but if you check Trainworld and Charles Ro websites they are saying they are in stock. I've got them preordered at MrMuffins but haven't heard anything yet.

No, that's how they really look.

Noticed on lionelstore.com that the dates have been removed from the AC&W dome car and station sounds cars . . . also, and more interesting, Lionel is taking pre-orders on the 2 car heavy weight set that we are all waiting for. Hopefully a good sign that these are close to arriving and they have extra stock available.

Maybe it was the original info they got from ACW and during the rebuilding process ACW changed their minds about going with the lighter color on the roof.

This seems the most logical.  They did say when the catalog was released that they were basing the paint scheme off discussions with ACWR, because the locomotive (and dome car) had not yet been painted.

This speaks direc

Well this post just cost me $499+.  I was resigned to not getting these cars or getting hammered on the secondary market. Maybe demand was such that Lionel was able to squeeze in a second/supplemental run.  I hope the wait is not too long only if because I had to pay full price, not just a deposit.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a reliable source of product information to keep customers informed periodically or on a flash basis when warranted?  You would think we were dealing with highly classified military secrets and not model trains.

Pretty sure you can sign up at Lionel store.com and get 10 off before you place the order. Before I knew that, I was able to snag the AC&W F unit set late in the game on the Lionel site. Was doing a google search and happened to notice one popped up as available there. Figured they did inventory and found one in the warehouse.

Thanks for the tip. Did that.  It took care of the sales tax and shipping.  Heh something is better than nothing.

I passed on the F set as the renderings on line and in the catalog looked more like burnt gold than yellow; at least to me.

Glad it worked! Hope you have the E units coming to you then to run with the heavy weights!

Yes, the E units looked more to my color scheme tastes.  The roof coloring does not concern me as it does others because it shows more of the roof detailing than a black roof does.  That and the raspberry roof color or whatever color you call it is too nice to limit to the sides and the nose IMO.

Except for the F units I now have or will have the full monty of what has been produced/announced thus far in AC&W except the TCCA convention related cars.

That's my plan as well . . . was hoping Lionel would do the AC&W GP-38 in that green livery in the last catalog, perhaps down the line . . . it is good looking.

I agree with you on the on the color. I did receive my E8s. Unfortunately, both units have some paint defects so Legacy Station is sending me a replacement set. It’s kinda cool to have a model that isn’t actually been refurbished and placed in service by the real rail road yet and that’s probably why the roof don’t match the one prototype on the rails.

I did pass on the F7 and first two pack to get the rocket booster train but did luck out on the 18 inch cars and the ones cataloged with the E8. I don’t regret that choice but would have liked to have those as well.

If not for BAM Railway I would not have snagged a pair of 18" cars from the Lionel Store yesterday.  Evidently the window of opportunity shut shortly after my purchase.

My E units are scheduled to arrive shortly.

The roof color on this set and the dust up over the Trainworld Katy engine as delivered paint scheme highlights the vagaries of the preorder model if the manufacturer deviates from the announced version or for those for whom prototypical deviations ( intentional, inadvertent,  or not) are a no go.

As folks my age have watched O/O27 evolve from toy like to more life like, I now think of the O/O27 gauge as HO on steroids.  Manufacturers need to acknowledge and recognize this trend not only as they do in their offerings, but in their execution of the end product.

Unrealized expectations of the customer will come back to bite the manufacturers at some point.

Well there's still no signs of the heavyweight cars, but I did get an invoice from Trainworld yesterday afternoon for the ACWR station sounds diners and the dome car, so it looks like they'll be arriving soon.

At least there is some movement! I ordered the Heavy Weights from Brady's and the Dome plus Stations Sounds set from Charles Ro . . . no word from anyone yet. Charles Ro did have the Stations Sound set available for pre-order up until today, but now they only show the Dome for pre-order.

My 2023 diners and dome arrived, but I neglected to take photos before putting them back in the box.  They are stunning, Lionel nailed the colors.

According to Run a Muck Chuck, who ordered directly from Lionel, he received his. I followed up with Brady's today and they still have not received their shipment. Hopefully in the next week or so, but they definitely appear to be state-side.

Hello BAM RR. Sorry I did not see your post until this afternoon.  I did not have a chance to open these before I left for York, and then I had to do some real work; imagine that.

For now the best I can muster is a photo of the box label to prove I am not fooling.  The cars came from the Lionel Store per your heads up.  Maybe I got the pair that Lionel approved before they authorized production?

Who knows.

That looks to be them! Believe the OBS date is the day it hits the water for shipping . . . interesting that these cars say October of 2022 -- which may confirm what we heard that they were shipped to Lionel and then shipped back to the factory to be remade due to the paint not matching. Heard back from Brady's trains and they have not received their shipment from Lionel yet.

I have not yet seen an invoice for the 18" set from 2022.  Looking at Lionel's recently updated shipping schedule, there are a bunch of other 18" cars due in November, and my guess is that they ran the ACWR stuff along with that, so I'm guessing next month.

Run A Muck, you might have (what I presume to be) a very rare set of "error" cars.

Wow, now that the ACW 18 in cars are out, I have seen them online at present for up to $600 '599.99'.  And the list price was $499.99, Is this inflation or what?

Appears Lionel is expecting to have more. Place your pre-order here and bet you get them pretty quick. Register your email first to get 10% off.

BAM, no room on the shelf!  She's lucky these just fit.  Also, if you look at the last 2 new cars you will see blue walls in the cars.  At first I thought this was a mistake, but I looked at the original catalogue pictures and the walls seem to be there.  But they look black, not blue.   Are everyone else's last 2 cars the same '2227390'?

Just expand the shelf! Still waiting to receive mine from Brady's . . . supposedly they are in.

The actual Roamer and Pinehurst have blue carpets and blue ceilings . . . perhaps they were trying to model the interior closer to the real thing and make it look more elaborate as in real life?

I agree that they look great in the green and was kind of surprised not to see it in the last catalog with the GP-30's. Hopefully we will see in the next catalog or two.

I'm hopeful for these, but its not clear if there is existing tooling for either.  From what I've read it seems an SD40-2 would be really close to a -3, but I don't know if anyone has made the wide cab GP-40-2s before.  I was looking a kitbashing one a while ago, but haven't gotten around to it.

Absolutely agree - hopefully, an acceptable alternative can be achieved if this if of interest to Lionel. I suppose Lionel could employ something similar to what they did with the CP salute series.

Finally got my 18" cars today.  They're beautiful, and I was pleasantly surprised they have figures in them!

Based on the date on the shipper (Oct 22) and fact the inside orange boxes looked like they'd been opened and resealed, they must have arrived with the wrong color and been sent back for repainting.

Now I've just got to get the first level of my layout up and running so I can see everything together.
