I found this on "the bay". It is Lionel not K-line. There are no actual light bulbs in the front and rear top headlight ports but the four ports are not filled-in solid either.  There are round metal inserts in each port so as you look at them they appear to be faux lights.

Is it a not used prototype? I could slip in small LEDs and wire it but this is just too odd.

Thinking along that line, I drilled out the headlight nacelles front and rear, installed LEDs, and added headlight lenses to TWO 520 Box Cabs.  I retained the motor in the leading unit, but gutted the following unit to make room for a Lionel sound board. I also added horns and bells to the roofs. I use this "pair" to pull a Lionel non-motorized track cleaning car around my layout. Photo is attached.

Sound board is an interesting idea, but what will you use for sound.  You'll need a recording of a Winton or Alco engine from the 20's.
