At the Science Museum of Va, there was another layout adjacent to us in the Rotunda running MTH DCS. The operator was having issues with kids pulling trains off the track. He would rerail a car, startup his train move it maybe a foot or so and then hit the Estop again, When he hit the Estop, he was shutting down our layout as well. Every time we reset and I had restarted my Legacy engine he would hit the Estop again (found another derailed car). This sequence repeated about 12 times in a 5 minute period.

During the course of my attempts to restart, I lost all sound on my Legacy locomotive. We did a factory reset. All other functions worked fine. Checked manuals for both my locomotive and the Cab1L, and nothing.

Today, I googled "Legacy loss of sound", and low and behold I got a hit on an OGR post by Marty Fitzhenry. Followed his instructions and botta-bing-botta-boom, worked like a champ. (Horn button ONCE then press the "1" to bring the sound up. NOT Aux1).

Several things:

  • DCS wired with Legacy Cab1L, if someone hits the MTH DCS Estop, it will dump the Legacy too.
  • Another layout in the area is enough to interfere with your command control system(s)
  • Just because a car is derailed, don't be hitting the stinking Estop.
  • IF there is a derailment, check all the cars!!!!!!!
  • Multiple frequent power cycles (for whatever reason) can whack-out your Legacy locomotive.

Marty, thank you for being part of the brain trust. Great info. I was just about to box this thing up and ship it off to get it fixed. And thank you to OGR for this Forum!!!!
