Like others, I started a total rebuild of my layout two years ago.  I wanted to go to a new theme which included changing from an around the wall layout with loops at either end of the entrance to one that totally circled the room.

That is so neat, Peter, and your layout looks really nice. I tried to get up to the mall earlier this month, but something came up and we couldn't make it. My wife has a doctor's appointment this evening and depending on how that goes, we might make it up Saturday. I'd love to meet you in person and maybe arrange a date/time to come back up to visit your layout. Will you be at the mall on Saturday?

Wow ! Awesome layout and lift out. Well done. Do you have a track plan, & your layout looks quite large.

Excellent idea.  Is there contact info for the Manne company?  Nice looking layout.

IMG_0441IMG_0441Well, here goes...I'll try to get in a brief description of my superstreets 1930's trolley layout.  12' x 2'2".   (Gotta make do with the space available).  I have the tablework built and installed,  62" high because my computer, desk, etc. are underneath.  I can still reach to the back.  My track is down, wiring is mostly complete (stopping sections still to put in).  Some structures are temporarily in place.  The next step is foamboard paving, sidewalks, etc., then I'll put up overhead.  I plan to run three-rail streetcars using the superstreets center rail, with the option of changing over to scale dc via the overhead when I want to run the scale dc Wagner drive cars I have.  I've found my scale trolleys track just fine on superstreets 21" curves.  Now, I'm going to try to post a very poor photo.  It's the only one I presently have.  I hope my computer skills are up to the task.

Well, Happy Day!!  It looks like they were.  That's a General Models Birney (with an IM handcar power truck underneath) in the front of the shot...and you can barely see a Lionel Fort Collins car  in the background.  Structures:  The corner of a plastic bank, scratchbuilt hotel,  almost finished storefront, Clever Models Hobby Shop, a Frank Ellison El Ropo Cigars (scratchbuilt), and in the distance a Mill building (also from an Ellison article).  More structures are on hand for later installation.

Fellows, thanks for your kind comments about my lift section.  Mianne's kits are really well engineered and thought out.  My only change was to replace their controller which was a single unit on a cable.  You would have to reach under the layout to grab it from either side to raise or lower the lift section.  I disassembled it and wired in two spdt sprung toggle switches, one on the inside the other on the outside.

George, yes, it is a large layout.  Click on the attachment, I've attached my layout drawing.

Dave, yes, I'll be at our layouts at the Mall this Saturday.  I've done my Halloween themed layout and am looking forward to having fun with it.

And Matt, Mianne is an advertiser in the OGR magazine, so you can get their contact information there.

Peter,

Impressive! You certainly have a gigantic 3 rail layout.  Was your layout ever published in OGR? If not it should be.

I've posted these in other threads here but I thought some would want to see them here, too. I took these with a better camera and played around with them. Mind you, this is without any special lighting and no tripod was used...

Lee, The photos came out good.  They really show off the detail and your work.  As for the sky and book case view. Well there is always photo shop, you wouldn't be the first one to use it here..

...  This is a great scene on its own. All you need is crane with a wrecking ball, dump trucks, a loader, piles of debris, and this could be any place.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words from you and Mike (you two seem to be the biggest fans of my work, here)

Actually, that shot is two shots, one of the truck/road and the other of the background, pieced together on photoshop. I decided to leave the bookcase there to just show what it really looks like there...

Lee, your scenes are really coming together nicely!  Great attention to detail as always!

Thanks very much!

Penny, the funny thing is that the name, "Tweetsie" wasn't used all that much by the locals, from what I can tell, until long after the 3-footer line was dead in 1950. The locals often called it, "The Stemwinder" and several people had their own take on the initials of the RR name, calling it, "Eat 'Taters and Wear No (or New) Clothes"!

Just found out some friends from Colorado Springs are in town today and tomorrow for a baseball tournament. I'm trying to find out where they're going to be playing tomorrow so we can visit. If we hear from them, we'll have to try for Prescott again next month. If we don't, we'll still come up to see the trains.

EDIT: Never mind. Just found out they play again Sunday, so we'll be up for the train show tomorrow and visit with them on Sunday.

Is Rich Melvin ever going to get in on this thread? I don't think I've seen any pics of his layout or fleet. Alan, you have to tell the boss it's time to contribute

James...Rich plays with the real prototype trains!!!  He does not have a layout....

Alan that's not true. Here is proof he has a 1/1 scale layout.

Alan The Grain Elevator is great looking. Not only pics of different angles and more building details, but maybe how you built it?

Frank is not only a inspiration, but I think most people would agree that his layout always has great stories to tell.

Also one more contribution to thread Pt 3 Drone Cam U boats of Winterton The U30B which was a kitbash project I had done a while back as nobody makes on in O Gauge.  Rock music theme this time.

Alan/Leavingtracks, Something I have especially liked and appreciated, all along, when you have shown us shots of your layout, is your being so bold and confident in your skills, in the first place, to have decided on that entire cityscape as what you were gong to have as your layout. That takes commitment. Lordknowz, most of (all of?!) what you have there had to be devised and crafted by you. It's not like we can all go out and buy all the ingredients needed to have a mini-NYC-type cityscape. So, I just had to acknowledge that factor, here and now, and congratulate you on such success and ability and confidence, and of course, there is the sheer beauty and realism of it all, to say the least! WOW!

Frank....I am so humbled and honored by your comments....Coming from an artist like you, they mean so much!  One thing for sure....I have a LONG way to go to catch up with you!!  Your work is the standard by which all others are judged...!!  I would like to visit with you to learn how to craft the details on my layout.  Perhaps we will be able to talk at this coming York if you are going to be there...??

Thanks so much!

Alan
