I gotta wear shades!!!!

That must be how the Rock Island railroad management felt when the 'new look' Rock Island image debuted.

It was a bright and fresh look for 'The Rock' but the railroad had been in turmoil so long not even a new image could help any.

By March of 1980 The Rock was gone.....absorbed into a number of regional railroads.

This pretty much finishes my Rock Island collection unless I stumble on a early E unit 'Rocket'  locomotive.

The WbB GP9 I bought custom painted.

The box car is a stock Lionel unit.

The caboose is a Lionel unit that I reworked and painted with my own decals.

A very colorful era......reminds me of the early F unit era!

Thanks

PS....I still have a set of RI caboose decals for anyone that wants to do their own!!!

My favorite livery since I first saw it rolling into northwest Houston in the late Seventies and post-bankruptcy on another railroad in the Texas Coastal Bend in the early Eighties.  Accumulated six locomotives and thirty pieces of 'The Rock' and 'Route Rock' rolling stock to underscore my affinity for the black, blue and white livery.  Even dislodged me as a Lionel purist to take advantage of MTH's offerings, since Lionel never made enough.

Did I mention a slightly less passionate affinity for MKT's even scarcer (for now) green and yellow 'John Deere' livery of the Seventies and Eighties?
