Trainworld lists the availability of both by the end of August. We know for sure that the Lionel Base 3 is now in production making an August availability quite plausible. Do we know if the MTH 50-1039 is currently in production?

The new TIU is in production and according to Rich Foster of MTH  at the show Spring York show it’s supposed to be here in June. They are just testing and retesting to make sure it’s good to go.

Did he mention which June

Base 3 for me, have it on order for years now hope to see it soon.  I already have two TIU's and WiFi so I don't need them.

My club has 2 TIUs, 1 for each 2 of the 4 operating lines and wired up with the MTH WiFi unit to each TIU. DCS works fine on our layout, so does the WiFi units. WiFi works great!
As for base 3, no need as we have cab1s, cab1Ls and the Legacy system. Club members prefer the cab1Ls. As soon as the base 3 comes out, hoping the price of the base1L drops to reasonable pricing, we’re buying that as backup if the legacy base ever fails.

Maybe down the road, the club will buy a base 3 but not until it is released, used and re-used to a year’s time so the new customers can be Lionel’s testers.
Just my club’s feeling towards a newly released system.

I have the Legacy system with WiFi and several TIU's with WiFi, so neither right now.  If a capability I desire shows up in the BASE3 in the future, I'll probably add that to the layout.  I don't see the new MTH WTIU in my future, it doesn't support the DCS remote except lashed to the box, that doesn't work for me.

Total agreement here. I would never willing trade my Cab 2 for an app. Unfortunately I joined the MTH world too late, long after the handheld controllers were off the market. So right now I’m stuck with DCS Explorer, Which is fine as far as it goes, but it doesn’t let you access the majority of the cool features available on MTH/Atlas engines. As far as the apps go, I find the MTH app to be more appealing, as the Lionel app seems a bit toyish to me ( yes I know we’re talking about “toy” trains here!).
