A buddy of mine has given me a TIU that he bought at a train show. On the back is stamped I3. Is this version Ok or are there any problems with this version . Just thought I would ask before I connect it up. Appreciate any input.Al

Definitely a keeper. I believe there were some problems with the original "I"'s and I3 was the corrected version. Actually, at that price, any TIU version that works is usable.
Right, free is good for any version.
Al B,
I would however have it up graded, but there is nothing wrong with a free DCS that is for darn sure, saves some big money! Definitely buy your friend a fine bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniels.

I'm certain the problem tiu was I3a . I had 3 of them before the issue was corrected. There was an issue with the signal generator (low dcs signal  Mth corrected the glitch and the corrected version had a silver dot beside the I3a.
Appreciate.

Al, I recommend you just go ahead and use it. If it works, fine. If it doesn't, then consider contacting MTH and see what they'll do.
Al,
After using it a while, GGG here on the OGR maybe able to upgrade it for you.
I am going to send him mine to up grade, when the Christmas layout comes down.

Al,
How or where does one get a TIU I3 upgraded?
There is no TIU "hardware upgrade" for a REV. I3 TIU.
What's available is a DCS software upgrade. It's free from MTH. The current version of DCS is 4.30 and it's available by clicking here.
The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition has all you'll need to know to update the software in your TU and Remote.
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
Unless your tiu say I3a, you really have nothing to worry about. even then not all of them had faulty hardware.. If you want to upgrade the software , well that's different, you can do that yourself.
An easy test.... Hook up fixed 1 to small test track , add a engine and do a track signal test. should be a perfect 10. I\d probably test all the channels .
