Hi, I am not familiar with the capabilities of a locomotive with TMCC when running it conventionally. I have two MTH Z1000 bricks which run my two loops. I have several MTH Proto 2 and 3 locos that run fine in conventional control with sound and basic functions. Does TMCC operate in a similar manner?

The reason for asking is that I have spotted a couple of locomotives (K-Line) which have TMCC that I am considering purchasing.

Thanks for any help with this.

Jerry

With TMCC engines in conventional you do lose some features:

You cannot fire electrocouplers- no conventional command exists to activate them

You cannot directly command crew talk or tower com dialogs from conventional while running. There may be some specialized engines and cases but for the most part there simply is no bell or whistle command or sequence.

You generally lose speed control AKA Cruise. Again there may be exceptions but because the voltage is what drives the speed, and there is generally not headroom voltage to compensate fully for load changes, again, cruise or speed control is nowhere near as exact for conventional- compared to the performance under command.
