This is a late production (ca. 1915) Voltamp 2210 "Suburban" locomotive pulling a couple of Voltamp freights. The loco had been sitting on a shelf until a friend helped me get it running with motor parts that it needed.

That is sweet Jim. Nice to see it run.
Thanks for sharing! Glad you were able to get it going - quite worth the effort.
Jim, that's really great to see a "piece of history" running again.
Great job you have done and a so good quality layout.
What voltage are those trains using 20v or high voltage ?
Félicitations,
Daniel
Looks great! Dig those crazy light bulbs! Are the bulbs original to the loco? Look like the old mazda bulbs.
Jim,
That was great to see. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for sharing this electric I also think the headlight is neat, I also like your layout.
I have a question on early two rail operation, how did they isolate the wheels from each other?
Are the wheels on independent axles or are they insulated by some other material?
The only 2 rail loco I have seen are HO and LGB where they use plastics for insulation.

Thanks for all the positive comments about the video. Let me try to answer a few questions. The voltage in this case is about the same as for Standard gauge trains. I use a model V transformer. However, some of the earlier 2" gauge trains require less voltage since they were designed to run off of batteries. Many of these need or run better with DC power. The various manufacturers used different schemes to electrically isolate the two wheels. The use of wood in construction was common for loco and car frames, etc. Voltamp had insulating material in the hub of the wheel where the axle passes through. Carlisle & Finch used a wooden dowel separating the halves of a split axle. The early carbon filament exhaust tip light bulbs are not original to the loco but they are from the same time period.
Great video, Jim! I always enjoy seeing your layout and all the great, historic "stuff" you have. (I enjoyed the soundtrack, also!) It is wonderful that you keep history alive by restoring and running these "almost century old" trains!
A terrific video of a rare type and the antique Voltamp loco is the icing on the cake. I enjoyed the sound of the consist as much as the images..sort of all business. Do you have any other videos of this or other stuff from your layout on line somewhere? BTW..the classical accompaniment added a whole other dimension to the video..great!
