Even though I wasn’t able to attend York this spring, I, like many of us here on the Forum, was very excited to learn of the forthcoming GE 44-ton diesel model by Williams by Bachmann. The few photos I’ve seen so far look great, and it certainly looks like one – maybe more – will find eventually a home on the PRND&L.

However, with the initial offering of four roadnames, there isn’t anything that really interests me. And so, as excited as I am, I think I’m going to wait on this one, until I can see one up close and personal, and perhaps wait for another year to see if WBB will offer the unit in some new road names.

How about you? Are you diving in, or siting by the pool on this one?

I'm holding too, since Bachman isn't making it in NYO&W or Middletown and New Jersey I'm just going to wait until they are released. I'm sure there will be enough of them to go around and it won't matter which one of their road names because I'll have to get mine repainted.

By then MTH should be announcing what they are coming out with, and I'll take it from there. I may have to get one of each brand .

It is a neat locomotive and most likely I will get the PRR version.  Even though it is not command control, I'll bet it will run nicely for switching operations.  Of course, I will also like to have one of the MTH units with command.  I have several freight operations that could use a 44 tonner!

I'm in.  I have a few paint schemes that I'd like to custom paint the 44-ton in.  First though, I am ordering just one...the DRG&W.  It will get partially repainted...the ends with orange stripes will stay, sides will get a coat of black, then orange lettering for my road.  Command and electro-couplers will be added.

if MTH really does finally offer one, I'd be in for one as well.

MTH announced at York that a 44 tonner with Proto 3 will be in the next catalog.

They have been saying this for 3 years   Wish WBB would do an undecorated in the meantime   There are thousands of road name possibilities with the 44 tonner

I agree; MTH has been talking about one but that of course would require new tooling. I'm not holding my breath. I would like to see an undecorated version too but I'm not complaining it's nice to see a 3 rail scale one in the pipe line!

If anyone knows, when are these supposed to be available?

I ordered 2 Southern Rwy - one for me and one for a friend. The SOU had them.

I wish that there was more money for the importers in the "critter" market. There were

and ARE so many different types around (little steamers were done, too).

How about a more scale-ish Lionel Vulcan or 2-4-2 "motorized" unit (actually, an upgrade

to good gearing and a can motor would do it)?

And a modernized Burro...

I need to see an item in person and watch it do it's thing or read of someone else's experience with it. These will be around for a long time whether they are flying off the shelf or not. I am also curious what future road names will be. Time will tell whether I pull the trigger or not. Thankfully its not one of those buy now and maybe you'll either eventually get it or it's a shelf queen out of the box..

Kudos to Williams by Bachman for that sort of reliability.

My thoughts also, if you are talking about the original gas turbines like the Minute Man version, etc.

They did re-issue them with TMCC, electro-couplers, traction tires, and lights.

Dtrainmaster -

Yeah, I have one of the PW Celebration USAF TMCC 2-4-2 turbines, and it's just cute as it can be. The side rods just make it. Runs well, always willing. Going to repaint it soon.

Runs well for an AC motor, that is, and it's so noisy that I guess a sound system is actually built in! I like it, and I think that the gearing is OK, but a smooth can motor, ERR

cruise and maybe a basic turbine sound would be sweet.

Is the WbB unit NOT scale???? Everything I read said it was??????

Pretty sure that's the direction WbB is headed....

Look at what I wrote Dave, I was questioning if the MTH one would be true scale sized.  The Williams one is supposed to be scale sized.
