i have a weaver hopper without trucks. Most of my lionel and mth cars have trucks that take a screw from the top. This wants a truck with a hole so the screw goes into the carbody. Do i need to find weaver trucks or are there alternatives that mount this way. Looking for a cheap fix!

If you have trucks that take a screw from the top, you can drill out the hole in the truck to a slightly larger diameter and put a screw up from the bottom.
If the hole gets too big, you can make a bushing from the plastic tubing that R/C airplanes use. The tubing is used to allow a wire inside of it to push or pull something. The tubing I use is translucent white and is easily cut with a razor blade or X-acto knife.
NYCBUFFALO, I agree with DKDKRD. Use the Weaver trucks now produced by MTH. That is what I do. It saves the process of trying to drill from the top. .......Paul 2

OR purchase a cheap Weaver freight car and change out the trucks. I found one on E bay for $5.00 plus $2.00 shipping not long ago. Sometimes folks will sell a damaged Weaver car with broken ladders, missing break wheels, heavy scuff marks, etc. Granted this is not everyday but these deals do come along now and then ... it just takes patience and persistence.
