First I've seen it, thanks. Quite a bit of Milwaukee Road in there, including an additional paint job for the ribside boxcars. The gray MOW scheme was not in the original list. I'll have to call my dealer and get one added to my order. Also a couple of new beer cars. Rose Bud Lager is a Wisconsin beer I never heard of; I couldn't make out where the brewery for Pickwick Ale is. The 2013 club car is a ConAgra covered hopper in what appears to be a rather strange shade of light olive.

Hi Guys,

I attended the York, Pa TCA Meet and visited Weaver's booth.  What really caught my eye was their model of a B&M P-4 Pacific!  The same one that is located at Steamtown.  A very handsome engine.  That B&M red outlined paint scheme (red outline rectangle on the tender and red outlined running boards) is a real looker!

I hope that Weaver will post some pictures of this new model soon.

Ditto that Dave.  At $70.00 a pop I'm glad that there wasn't much Western Maryland offered.

Good point. Weaver did make the "American Flyer" coaches in the John Wilkes/Black Diamond color scheme a few years back, but they didn't sell all that many. They turn up on eBay every once in a while. There were also a few Golden Gate Depot heavyweight sets in that color scheme, but they were basically all pre-ordered and are hardly ever seen for sale. MTH made sets of their regular heavyweight "Madison" cars to go with the original Weaver "John Wilkes" way back when; you do see those every now and then. Maybe Weaver will put some Black Diamond passenger cars in its next catalog. If not, I guess the price of the old MTH sets on the Bay will go up - and they weren't cheap in the first place. One impediment to getting passenger cars to go with the Black Diamond is that the prototype train was modernized heavyweights and Weaver does not have dies for this kind of car. Photos of those cars are kind of hard to find. Regular streamliners would look good, but would not be prototypical. The Lehigh Valley did run some cars that were similar to the "American Flyer" design, but not identical. Maybe Weaver could re-run those to go with the locomotive.

Here's the Weaver John Wilkes with the MTH cars. The locomotive came with Proto-1 has been upgraded to DCS, but it still has the original Seuthe smoke unit. The new Black Diamond will come with TMCC and a fan-type smoke unit.

Thanks for the update.

Getting back on topic…

Unfortunately I’m still waiting on Weaver products announced well over 14 months ago.

Many of the cars shown were listed last year.

As with all these companies, it takes way too long to bring the product to market.

By the time it hits the stores over a year or so later, many potential buyers have lost interest or selected pre owned items when seeing the latest high prices.

I always said, the latest offerings should be in stock ready for immediate sale starting with the York shows. NPI, new product introduction should be key.

The show should be based on generating large volume of new car sales, not what we might see a year from now if it’s made.

There are too many delays and problems with overseas vendors to continue doing business this way.

Pre- orders have always been a bunch of nonsense only to capture a small initial group.

It only creates shortages for other potential buyers and new people entering the hobby later on.

Immediate sales capture the consumers much better than speculating a year and a half from now what might actually sell.

Hopefully we will be able to purchase new products quicker some day.

SIRT....makes a general statement valid for all the mfrs., apparently, although I had

not heard that Weaver had this problem (I thought Weaver was making their stuff

in country....not all of it?).....

I was reluctant to order anything from those catalogs passed out at York, for this reason, but did, although my thinking is, "When will it get canceled like the MTH McKeen car?"  I had a car float in last summer, well after I had forgotten the order, and after thinking, "What the heck is this?", finally found the catalog, with, fortunately, a note in there to the effect that, "Hey, dummy, you ordered this."

Surprise!  Merry Christmas to me! (or more like, Happy Fourth of July!)

I would rather wait until somebody who actually got their hands on one throws it up

for sale on the net.  Pay more, maybe, but much less of a disappointment.  Of course, as some are saying above, the thing may be in demand and never show up for sale. "They" are blaming the Chinese economy for this d-e-l-a-y-e-d order problem...but hasn't it been going on before there was a global financial problem, like, years before, since this system was instituted?  Which I understood was because of dealers

complaining about too much product, overproduction, and losses from blowing them

out.  The pendulum has swung, now we get underproduction.

As far as I know everything Weaver makes is scale size. Weaver is known for the huge variety of graphics and road names on their rollng stock. Their older molds do not have as much detail as we expect from top end products, but the price is competitive for what you get. Their newer plastic products such as the B&O wagontop boxcars are excellent, with plenty of detail. Most, but not all of their rolling stock is U.S. made. Brass is made overseas, in Korea I think. The new line of high-end Milwaukee Road ribside boxcars will be made in U.S.A.

JEM , True "O" 1/4" = 1  FOOT although I often still wonder about their 40' steel single & double door box cars. They still look under sized compaired to other O equipment.

Measured, they are correct but just dont look right.

Part of the products are US made but need overseas trucks and other details to complete the item.

The single and double door steel boxcars look smaller because they are an old 1930's prototype that is a foot or two shorter in height than the PS-1 and other newer 40' cars. Take a look at a photo of a 1950's freight train. You will see boxcars at two different heights - the taller PS-1 cars, and the shorter AAR and wooden cars.

Not to mention ERR Cruise and RailSounds.

Will be a neat engine, but it's hard to spring for a passenger engine that has no cars. Previously produced cars may show up once in a great while (although you have to wonder how many car sets are floating around by themselves without an engine after all this time), but that's not very reassuring. Maybe Weaver will advise about plans to make matching cars.

OK! I sent the following e-mail last night concerning this latest round of Roadrailers:

To whom it may concern,

I have a couple of questions regarding the Triple Crown Roadrailers listed in the latest Fall 2012 Catalog:

  1. Will these latest Roadrailers have Different Road numbers than the last TWO Weaver Model issues?
  2. Will these latest Roadrailers have the correct Gothic Phonts for the road numbers and code letters [unlike your last run with incorrect ROMAN Phonts-Yuck!- Bowser's phonts were spot on]
  3. Will these Triple Crown Roadrailers have correct White painted rims or Grey primer painted rims- instead of the incorrect Silver rims?
  4. Will you correctly paint the roofs silver- or an aluminum color? [the roof is an integral structure bearing part of the Roadrailer trailer]
  5. Will you offer the Small Logo of the Triple Crown Roadrailer [What you call Small is really the medium sized logo]

See Link for my Comparison review on the OGR Forum:

Also, I have attached pictures of my detailed Weaver Roadrailers as well as some other superdetail ideas for these unique cars!

Thank you for your response to this matter.

I recieved this response back from Weaver models :

Mark,

  1. Yes it will have different road numbers.
  2. We got all the artwork from Bowser when we did these cars.
  3. Yes we can change the color of the rims.
  4. No we can’t change the color of the roof.
  5. Bowser only supplied us with the Medium and the Large logo if you have something with the appropriate size for the small logo that we can go by it may be a possibility.

Have a Great Day!

Weaver Models

Well hopefully we will get white/Grey rims for Triple Crown Roadrailers and different road numbers!

I'm glad to see Weaver beginning to fill out the roadrailer line -- even though they appear to be doing to EVER so slowly.  But why only 3 road numbers in just 3 or 4 paint schemes???  Most folks who buy these would like to run a long unit train.

At one point, when the former manufacturer (Bowser?) had them, there were a good dozen or so paint schemes.  I'd love to see BNSF Ice Cold Express roadrailers produced to match the mechanical reefers already out on the market.  Seems like a natural to me, and I'd bet they'd be a hot seller to boot.

Probably those are the ones that are selling and Weaver models knows it can make and sell out a run of 500 units. Keep in mind this is the third Weaver Run in 4 years so those people who want a long train and OEM paint graphics have choices:

  1. Obtain Bowser Roadrailer 1st run of 4 numbers for TC Roadrailers per paint scheme [large & medium logos]
  2. Obtain Bowser Roadrailer 2nd run of 4 numbers for TC Roadrailers per paint scheme [Large & medium logos]
  3. Obtain Weaver Models Roadrailer 1st run of 3 numbers for TC Roadrailers per paint scheme [Large & medium logos]
  4. Obtain Weaver Models Roadrailer 2nd run of 3 numbers for TC RoadRailers per paint scheme [Large & medium logos]
  5. Order Weaver Models Roadrailer 3rd run of 3 numbers for TC Roadrailers per paint scheme [Large & medium logos]

Keep in mind Bowser has NOT released the SMOOTH side Trailers/Roadrailers for Weaver Models thus many of those "other" paint schemes such as Amtrak and BNSF ICe Cold Express are of the Smooth side trailer type.

Apparently Bowser has many of those "Smooth Side types" left over- or at least their dealer networks do.
