How to make something new with an old model….. The first type of that french LR locomotive is a 240 configuration and for the Etat Railways, made in 1935.
After the second world war, LR modified that engine keeping the body , painted it in the SNCF livery and with a new set of wheels making a more serious 442 locomotive. It has been produced during a very short time.
And i finally founded the black version of the 442 in black with a complete set of « plastic cars » they where the only plastic passenger cars made by LR. This set is from. 1955, end of existence of LR trains.
Have a great tinplate weekend, Daniel

Daniel,
I have a version of the ETAT locomotive in SNCF livery but still a 2-4-0:
A book on LR (like there is for French Hornby, JEP and CR) describing all what was made and when would be very interesting!

This week a small 0 gauge tinplate crane:
It has the marking Made in Germany but I did not know the maker, even not after searching through internet and books. Then I suddenly realised the frame looked familiar and I had a freight car with exactly the same frame and the body of that car was marked with AS (Adolph Schuhmann). So I assume this small crane car is made by Schuhmann and is from the thirties.

Thanks to all for posting. This thread is my favorite each week, and today I actually made time to contribute:
A newly acquired Classic Model Trains Erie Camelback pulling tank car train.
Anyone recognize the tank cars/caboose???
KBN passenger train from teens/early 20's
The fantasy (set box top illustration)
...and the reality
It's worth noting in this instance that KBN did what many European toy train manufacturers did when exporting to the U.S. - just tack on a removable cow catcher to an otherwise European style engine and ship it.

Fred,
Nice model, i didn't know that one. And now i have to find one..... It must not be easy to find.
A book on LR trains would be a nice addition to the library, i agree totally. Someone in the french club CFE was interested to do it but it has never happen. Today the best documentation for LR is old catalogs and lists prices. Old catalogs are comon find for some years but they are near always illustrated with drawings so not very exact. list prices are very hard to "imagine" what i can be as there is no illustrations.
I got my 442 LR with a set of freight cars that makes an original set from ... i think..... 1946-47.
All my best wishes, Daniel
I know what you mean. I 've been gathering projects up at a decent clip this year, but I was wanting to save them for winter time, but I blew thru most of them already. Trying to hold off for a while (till I come across something I HAVE to rebuild!) so I can get my car done this year. And that's what I tell the wife...I com straight home from work....if she ever wants me, I'm either downstairs or in the garage.
Haven't seen much Marx posting lately so I thought I would post of of my older ones. I found this in my garden just before Easter this year. Gary
Nice photos everyone. The weekends seem to be going faster than ever. I've missed posting for several weeks but I have enjoyed seeing the posts from everyone. Thanks. Even though its late in the weekend I decided to post.
Here are a couple of orphan Ives tenders that I have managed to pick up along the way. I hope to reunite them with an engine one day.
Both of them come from the 1929 -1932 era
The top tender is an Ives 1663T and obviously has its heritage in the Lionel 258T and even has a Lionel Latch coupler. I believe that the bottom tender is an Ives #25 from 1929.
I hope you have had a great Tinplate Weekend

Greg, Nice tenders! Is the 25 the tender that would have come with an 1122 engine? I have the opposite, an 1122 but no tender. That said, my 1122 is very much a project and not a nice loco at this point.

Was away Friday and Saturday and had little time today, so here's a quickie of two very recent acquisitions.
First is a cute KBN station. Anyone know whether it was produced in the 1920s or 1930s?
Second is one of my favorites, but never really had a chance to acquire it till an auction on
Saturday. I consider the JEP CC 7001 electric one of the real classic toy train locomotives of the 1950s.

Dennis,
The #25 was paired with the #1122
It was also painted red and paired with the red 1122 in the Black Diamond set. It also came in copper with the copper locomotive in the Seagrave set.

Nice train, Rob--especially the CNJ caboose. Who made it?

Steve, I just tried with Google Chrome instead of my older version of Safari and got the video fine. I think our browsers are outdated and in need of an update.
Nice video Rob!

My old video of a Japanese floor toy I motorized a long time ago. Added ERR sound board also. Fun little project. This was sort of a what if Marx made a diesel project.
