Where to start

Ken, this being your first York, I would start at the Orange Hall. The major manufacturers are all there as well as the big dealers. Lots of cottage industry guys as well. This would be a very good introduction to York.

If you have a particular item(s) that you are going to York to find and they are not current catalog items, then I would alter my suggestion and recommend that you start with the Blue/Silver Member Halls. You would stand a better chance to find such items there as well as the Red & White Halls.

And don't forget the Forum event Thursday night at Tuesdays.

depends on what you like. Marty and I like new stuff, so it's the Orange hall. His brother Paul likes older stuff so it's the silver or blue hall for him. 

I am talking York Friday;

We usually start in the blue/silver hall, because it's where we register.  We save the orange hall for later because it is open later on Friday than some of the other halls.  York is sorta like Disney world, you can't really do it all in one day.

I would agree with the gentlemen above who recommended the Orange Hall.

Chris has it right.  It really depends on what your interest is.  PW and older items start in the member halls.

New items and dealers items Orange and Purple. 

There is no sense in starting out in Orange if your interests are in Post War.

For a new person I think the Orange Hall is best because it has the best variety...new stuff from Lionel/MTH/others, big name sellers like Scenic Express, Arttista, Miller signs, DiecastDirect, etc., and dealers selling videos, clothing, books, plasticville, vintage trains, etc.

If you haven't been walking some distance for awhile, York can be a bit overwhelming. You can easily do 3 to 4 miles a day.  Use caution, take your time and enjoy the experience.  IMO.  There are power carts available.

As stated, depends what you are looking for.  If you are only there for one day, you need to be really focused on what specifically you need.  It can be overwhelming to say the least.  All the member halls close at 5 but Orange is open until 7 so keep that in mind.  Also have a way to write down the location of something interesting in case you decide to keep looking and then want to go back to where you first saw the item.  Believe me you won't remember where it was!!   Also a small flashlight is helpful to look at items. Some of the halls can be a bit dark.  Best of luck and don't get overwhelmed!!  It is absolutely amazing and mind blowing!

Hi,

   I will be making my first trip to the fairgrounds on Friday.  My area of interests are Pre-war and Post-War original.  So based on the flyer it looks like my best bet is Blue then silver then red then white then brown then purple.  Does that seem to make sense?

   I am looking forward to the trip.
