Very cool!
Makes me wonder (though not likely) if Lionel would re-visit its Disney license and get a Mater shell to go on the new TMCC pick up trucks that came out over the last 6 months.

I like it, and it follows in the long tradition of Disney and trains.

Wow! Initially I didn’t see anything whimsical in the picture. Looked at this thread last night and didn’t understand the question. Cool vehicles make faces at me all the time. Hmmm, maybe it’s a sign of a bigger problem.

Any thoughts?
I think it is good as long as it is not overdone. I am still looking for a scale Batman to stick on the side of a building.
I have several Mopar muscle cars through out my layout, so naturally I had to have "The King". I've also got the Batmobile (Adam West), Back to the Future Delorean,Need to find a Herbie VW, and a Mystery Machine since all of us are Scooby Do Fans.
I think it is great. I need to find a Mater. What scale is it?
Thanks
Mater said, "you ain't gonna git me on no scale!"
I honestly don't know the scale. He was selected in the hope it would clear the overhead door. The overall length is just over 3". Its a smaller scale than the Camaro that came with the MTH Garage.
Mine has moving eyes.

Diecast Direct has a 1:55 scale Mater.

Mattel / Disney calls them 1/55 scale.....but it is a cartoon.....so how knows!
I find them a bit small for O.....but better than too big!
There is a plastic model kit that claims to be 1/43 scale.

The Disney Store sells both 1:43 and 1:55. There are a lot more offerings of 1:55. I think most of these are around the 3" range and the 1:43's are 3.75" plus. I bought some 1:43's today to go with my other 1:43 cars and trucks used on my 3 auto carrier trains.
The hobby is suppose to be fun. Nothing wrong with a little whimsy.
I really like it too!
Reminds me of the hand car video with Snoopy and Woodstock. Hit a nerve with me. Some of my favorite cartoon characters and seeing him on that hand car made me laugh!
I think some build there railroads to wow people. Some others build them to entertain. It can be the same or at times, not.
Good idea for a little fun.
I was finally able to acquire a "David Hobbscap".
Also a five car box set to populate around a Mel's Diner.
OK as long as we are talking whimsical, I have been looking for a long time for a large Godzilla, big enough that a train could pass between its legs. The plan is to light him up with leds. I think that fits into the whimsical category.
The kids just love seeing crazy things on train layouts, especially things that are in their roundhouse of toys.

BTW - if you should see a Godzilla running down the road, lasso him and I'll pick him up for the layout

Go to a Comic Book shop that sells HeroClix figures by Wizkids Games. There are many versions of Batman available which are O Scale sized.

When my kids were little, I would put a circle of track around the X mas tree, more to please me than them. I used an old 2055 and pulled a bunch of gondolas, each loaded with little decorated packages. My wife collects Nativity scenes in every size and style, some from foreign countries, some home-made...you name it, she's got it.
One day I came home from work, and heard the train running. I checked the living room, and saw the Holy Family, the 3 wise men, and all the beasts from the stable, riding around and around. It seemed like They were all enjoying the ride.
You can't top that for whimsy AND sacrilege!
When setting up the standard gauge layout at the Children's Book Fair Sunday, my grandson put this one out. The younger kids seemed to only notice the lady being saved from the dinosaur, the parents did not seem to have an issue with Naughty Noel being rescued. I'm sure she will need rescuing in a few weeks at The Banning Train Festival.

Mater works at the gas station on my layout too. The gas station next to the guns and fishing tackle store that is! lol
Not sure I like the way Mater's looking at the tail fins of that Caddy though....

A bit more whimsy.
Love the Yellow Submarine!

A mono rail on 3 rail.
