Wiring a Ross double crossover

Ross switches has a wiring diagram for that cross over. Look on there website or call Steve at Ross customs switches. I have dz2500’s with non derailing. That gets a little tricky to wire.

@DocMcKay  Doc, the DZs work best if you provide separate power to the switch motors. I have had issues with using a single switch controller for two switch motors (both the single button ones for the DZ2500 and the 2 button ones for the DZ1000). Every once in a while a point would not throw completely causing a derailment.

I did the same with my double crossover as you describe. In my case I already had the 2500s in place. What would happen is one point of the switch pair would partially throw. Pressing the switch controller button controller would then cause that switch to complete the throw but the other motor would then move the other points in the other direction. The only fix was to push the DZ motor at the turnout to get the pair to be aligned properly.  I probably would not have that issue with the DZ1000 buttons.

I have since moved on to Tortoise motors where I have room. I like them as they have enough force to keep the points in place, but also allow cars to move through the turnout without derailing by pushing the points aside.

Thanks, ScoutingDad, that is very helpful, clearing up whether I need separate power. On mine, I see that there is one AC wire from the controller and one from the DZ1000. I assume one of those wires, e.g. from controller, goes to say accessory positive, and the wire from DZ1000 goes to negative? Or vice versa.

I've heard the tortoises are very good - may take a look..

Doc, The DZ1000 wiring is quite simple.  Accessory power is applied to the switch motor (center) its returning 2 wires go to the controller button (left and right) and then its center contact goes back to AC common.    Switch wiring  The DZ25000 is wired differently. 

You can use solid 4 wire thermostat wire or 22 gauge 4 wire stranded security cable.  I did not care for the stiffness of the solid wire for the 2500s so I bought a 500 foot reel of the security cable. Tin the strand ends as they can break easily.
