Every time I glance through the catalog I see just one more thing that I think I have to have. This thing is dangerous, there are little gems hidden throughout the catalog.

Just today I noticed the Premier Norfolk Southern Jordan Spreader

, the NS Flat car with 40' container car.

That's in addition to the NS Railking snow plow

and N&W Gondola with N&W crates.

Also the Philgas 33K Gallon tank car

and of course the NS heritage ore cars

...these are just the little gems....the big ones are going to get me as well.

E-8's in N&W

and the green NYC

+ those nice blue N&W passenger cars.

The American Electric Power hoppers.

An American Freedom train

and more Y-3's.

Too much to order too little money, too much to hide...HELP please take my catalog or give me the Mega-Millions numbers for next week.

You have a very nice want list going there and I feel your pain! I was all set to order a Lionel engine and an Atlas-O engine, then the MTH catalog came out. These guys really have my number. Somehow they have already found out I like BNSF, now they even have 6 car Kansas City Power & Light coal car sets (2 of 'em to be exact + the 2 road numbers as a single car order). About fell out of my chair when I saw those. How do they know? I swear I haven't told them a thing!

Keep in mind I only have modern diesels, no steamers. At MSRP pricing from the catalog, my want list is in the $4500-$5000 range just from the MTH 2014 v2 catalog. Needless to say about half that is going to have to be cut along with the Lionel and Atlas-O purchases. There were a lot of items from the 2014 v1 catalog that had to be cut last fall, I would still like to have as well. This has happened with every MTH catalog in at least the last two years. We don't stand a chance.

Scott, just put in the doghouse,  then you can look at it every night since you seem to have to sleep out there every night she catches you with a new locomotive. Have you ever thought of watching the old Hogan Heroes show and figure out how to dig a tunnel from the doghouse to your office/train room so you can sneak them in without her catching you?

 Listen. I've got it!

We both go in and buy a hobby shop. We order everything we want. After it comes in and you get to see it, we'll put it on the shelf. Slowly over the years we'll sell off the older stuff when you're not looking. There will be so much new stuff coming in, you won't even notice!

 You do that already????

Hmmm, well maybe I need to win the lottery first, but at least I've got a plan.

I wasn't going to look at the new MTH catalog, but Scott, you blew it for me by posting those trains! The American Freedom Train locomotive and the Y3 are more stimulation than my wallet can handle, but I will be on the lookout for good deals on these engines.

Fortunately there are no new trolley cars in Mike's catalog, else my head and piggy bank would explode.

You are very lucky, you have the much rarer and better disease 'non-microferroequinosis'.

Scott,

Against my better judgment, I just made a second pass through the hard copy of the catalog I got late last week at my LHS. The list has expanded and it is getting much worse! Could be terminal if wife sees it! Death by rolling pin or cast iron skillet!

As far as I am concerned, the true test of a great catalog, as opposed to a good one, is if I find something else I just must have every time I go through it again, no matter how many times.  This most recent MTH catalog is a great catalog, as was, frankly, the most recent Lionel.

But again, I am reluctant to pre-order anything from the MTH, because I have so much on long backorders now.  The PS 3.0 UP propane turbine and PRR S-1 are both shown as shipping in June.  If they do I will revisit my ever growing list of "that would be nice to have" from the catalog.

If I was still in business, I would be calling you on the phone. Twice a day.

Jim Sutter,

I can remember receiving more than one call for you coming across something you know I needed to buy from you. It was always a great experience--accept when Kathy found out. I can remember sitting in Martinsburg, WV at a Burger King drive-thru ordering a set of NYC F-3's from you. I didn't see them at York and figured you might have them-and of course you did.

You know Scott... you're such an MTH Junkie!

 Yes I am!

You really need to find Mrs Smith's vice!

My wife's only vice is not spending money.
