My first real job, back in 1956, was in a station nearly identical to that one except it had Union 76 markings.  My friend's dad, Devere Hansen, owned it and it finally closed in 1970 or so.  After I worked there a canopy was put over the island and a big electric sign was installed out on the left front corner by the sidewalk.

A mirror image of that looks nearly exactly like the Standard Oil Service Station that my father frequented. Thanks for the fond memories. I remember watching the service attendant check the oil and wash the window shield every time he filled the tank. I even remember the owners name Mr Fowler. 

I bought most of my baseball cards there. And my dad had most all of his car repairs done there. (Time period I recall was 1955 through 1965)

Weren’t the gas stations typically called service stations in those days?
