I know Lionel makes/has made at least two different scale Berkshires.  I have the Legacy Santa Fe 4199 (6-11387) which I understand is based on a older K-Line tooling.  From what I can tell, the Per Marquette Berkshire (6-11203) also used for the Polar Express scale locos, is a different loco casting.

How do these two locos compare in size?  According to catalog listings I've just looked at, the Polar Express scale Berksires are about half an inch shorter than the Santa Fe 4199 I have.  But I know that catalog data is often only approximate, and that those lengths include the tender.  I'm interested to know how the locomotives compare.

Did Lionel produce any other scale Berkshires?  Near as I can determine, there are only these two castings.

Thank you.

No problem Lee, I'd definitely recommend one of the PM/PE berks. As I stated they are larger" beefier" for lack of a better description.

They also have noticably more "heft to them. Then of course, theres always the sound. On the past PM/PE scale offerings, ALL of the sounds come directly from the prototype.
