If you hold the shift key and adjust the throttle knob you can adjust the volume on the LionChief engines using the included remote or the universal remote.

Mind blown. Does this work on the ready to play sets too? Like the G scale Polar Express?

Nope, only the LC+ I believe.
On the older LC+ units, you hold the horn and whistle buttons at the same time and move the throttle up and down to control volume. It’s a bit awkward but it works.
You can control LionChief engine volume with the Lionel Universal Remote as well, of course.
