i need to change the drive string on the postwar 128 Newsstand. Is there some way to get the old string out of the drive line eyelet and reuse it to crimp the new string in?  There is a slot in the vibrating plate where the eyelet attaches.  Is the eyelet supposed to be able to slide out that slot?  If I have to replace the eyelet it looks like I will need to drill out the rivets the attach the motor to the frame and then drill out the rivets that attach the armature to the motor in order to rivet in a new eyelet. Does this sound right?  Seems like there must have been an easier way. Any advice is appreciated.

I reuse the eyelets on all the Lionel string motors.

It does not have to be removed from the vibrating arm.
Just use a thin, sharp object like a small finishing nail or brad, inserted from the flange end to open the eyelet enough for the old line to slide out.  Slip the new line in, and recrimp.

I don't think I've ever had to install a new eyelet.
