Plug an 8 Ohm speaker directly into the board is my normal test method. This ensures the board and audio amp are working.

Being a steam engine with The typical failure is the wires break at the drawbar since the factory heatshrink is not effective strain relief. They sometimes short and kill the audio amplifier IC.

If an older board, pre-bluetooth, then the speaker connector is orange 2 pin JST-PH (#1 in picture)

Newer boards with bluetooth are not color coded, but are labeled on the board SPKR and 2 pin JST-ZH smaller sized connector. Again, they are all white on the blueooth enabled LC boards, however, speaker is silkscreen lettering on back of the board.
