0 DAYS TILL YORK WEEK.

Usually, York week coincides with NPR pledge week.  The only thing worse than listening to pledge week (after I've already written my check) is to listen to pledge week on every NPR station I encounter on my 550-mile drive.  Our local pledge drive was this week, so hopefully it will be the same for all the other stations along the route.

I have no idea what NPR pledge is?

I think it's fundraising, like what PBS does all the time.

NPR- National Public Radio, a PBS- Public Broadcast Station radio network. A former co-worker called it begging week when they hold their fundraising campaign.

"Get an XM radio."

I sure agree with this. Would not leave home without it. We leave for York, never have to change the channel, great reception, super music to our tastes, and NO ADS. Makes the trip even more enjoyable.

Yes, and it KILLS them when they have to use their most popular program to induce you to give..."Car Talk" with "Click & Clack, the Tappet Brothers". They origionally thought that that show was too "low class" to air.

An absolute "must" for anyone who travels any significant distance ('50s on 5 and '60s on 6 are my favorites for music).

I have an I Pod, with about 400 songs, all music I like, with no interruptions at all. I had the free trial XM when I bought my new car, but really didn't find any channels that suited my tastes enough to warrant continuing. They even offered it to me for $4 a month.

...or get a good book on tape/cd/whatever.  I usually go over to the library to see what the latest offerings are in this regard and pick one with enough disc's to last for the round trip.  I've listened to a number of very good books this way....and no commercials and you can start and stop whenever you want to.

I did that one trip - listened to a book on tape.  The only trouble was switching out the cassette every so often so I lost the story line for a bit.  Otherwise it was a nice way to pass the time.

I pop a 32gb USB stick into my sound system with my choice of music for the trip.  No ads, and no DJ yacking about the music.  Even XM has announcers that love to talk at times.  Truthfully, I'm probably wasting the money I pay for XM, because I rarely use it.

We listen to Channel 69, Escape, that has an "easy listening, good music" format. Only one station identification per hour, that's it. Lasts five seconds.

XM is always on when we start the vehicles. Makes every trip more enjoyable, especially a long one like going to York.  

When I'm not listening to XM (MLB, 60s or classic rock channel), it's Books on Tape....right now Vol 2 of Shelby Foote's Civil War, a Narrative.

Much like Allan I like the 5=50s  6=60s  7=70s  etc.. also like Watercolors for easy listening and there are at least 6 different jazz stations...cool baby..

The only reason I have serious radio is to listen to Major league baseball.
