Seven for Sunday:  More on the derailment. 

" This is Bob Little reporting for WPTV.  Bringing you up to date on that train derailment caused by a runaway boxcar that collided  with the locomotive of a transfer freight  yesterday morning in downtown Patsburg.  We do have still photos of that accident which has closed the mainline and Patburg Avenue for over 8 hours.    Free State Junction Railway officials stated that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.   Patsburg Fire Chief, Preston Holmes said fire crews remained on the scene until clean up crews arrived.  Some fire crews will remain until all diesel fuel is contained.   The N&W Railroad's passenger train The Cavalier was held on the mainline until railway dispatchers were able to figure and clear a detour  routing which required a long back up move for the train.  An update will be given with more photos of clean up efforts tomorrow.  This is Bob Little for WPTV in Patsburg.  Now back to Walter Cronkite.  "

Mark and Ted - Thanks so much for your wonderful commentary and compliments!  Ted I'm thrilled that my little creation could cheer you up!

In actuality the idea for the scenes was spawned by an actual, on the layout, derailment of the locomotive and the boxcar as described by Bob Little in his news reporting.  When I used to host the weekly Team Track Tuesday thread I would have to come up with a new team track scene each week.  It was always a challenge for me to create a new scene each week.   I usually created these scenes on my layout each Monday night.  On that particular Monday evening I went to the train room and got the trains running ... as I do my best creative thinking when the train are running.   As the VO 1000 locomotive got close to the switch for some unknown reason the boxcar, on the team track, began to roll toward the switch which intersected with the mainline.  Next thing I knew the Locomotive was leaning on a 45 degree angle and the boxcar was off the rails.  Seeing  this happen I got the idea within a second to create a derailment  scene for that edition of Team Track Tuesday .... I think it was a TTT edition at some point in 2018.   

As I was looking through my photo archive last weekend, I came across those photos and decided to give them a new life with a new twist .... reported by  WPTV's Bob Little.   The fire chief, Preston Holmes, was one of the first non family members I can ever remember.  He was a paid  daytime fireman at the volunteer fire dept located across the street from where I lived when I was a young  kid.  He always took a liking to me and I to him.  

As the late Paul Harvey used to say... " And now you know the rest of the story."

WPTV's Bob Little here with a follow up on that train derailment that reeked havoc in downtown Patsburg this past weekend.  The locomotive and boxcar were re-railed late Saturday.  The mainlines are now clear with trains running at speed in both directions.  Patsburg Avenue is again open to vehicle traffic.  An investigation is still going on into what caused this mishap.  Luckily no one was injured.  

Someone is going to get some time off in Patsburg!

Yea.... nice looking Indians. I had one back in the late 60's, was working on it to get it running, one night it disappeared some one decided they wanted it. Today I have a three HD's, 1967 FLH, 1968 FLH and a 1972 FX Superglide. 

Trumptrain, we had a similar event a while back at the station in Fairfield. The following was in the Fairfield Gazette.

Tragedy at Fairfield

 The once peaceful station at Fairfield was rocked by a horrific accident today.

A tank car loaded with a noncorrosive substance and a hopper loaded with paint balls destined for Canada left the track around 8AM crushing to death a railroad worker.

A conductor viewing the carnage had a heart attack at the scene, which was fatal.

True to his calling he was still holding his signal lantern when he breathed his last.

The accident did major damage to the station and a nearby trash can.

The only other injuries were to a plump woman who dropped her half full coke bottle and to her chagrin it broke her big toe. There will be law suites and investigations.

A suspicious man was caught on video hurriedly leaving the scene just before the fatal event. If anyone recognizes this person please notify the Fairfield Police Dept.

Oh the humanity!  A fatality!  He passed on in the line of duty!  A station repair isn’t a big deal, but a fatality!
