Inner 2 trucks have 2 Magic Carpet drives in them each - wipers off each side of spring brass wire connect into the drives.  Might have to add pickups off the outer 2 trucks eventually.

 

I have not yet bothered to hook up the poles for overhead - the roof is removable for when that day arrives.

I used both a set of plans from the original P&N motor which was probably the 1st B+B-B+B articulated so it was a little funky being shop built back in 1918 and the plans from an article by Wagner. 

 

The 1st one of these was built using existing on hand B+B motor drives and just dropped a single car body over 2 of them for the 1st one of these = a bit of expediency being shop built.  The later ones were all metal and probable a lot better designed.

Basic origins reside in the P&N 5500 that was shop-built during WWI to respond to a need to move more freight faster while also not being permitted to buy any new engines durig the war.  Had been on my list of things to build for years and I had several sets of plans that as per usual conflicted with each other, and I had the Wagner article, too.  Boiling down all of the information got me to a point where I could build something recognizable (someone at the East Penn meet knew what is was immediately - gratifying!).  

 

And as I need projects for my columns to meet deadline, that combination provides good motivation to get up and into the shop and building stuff.

 

When the final for the car ongoing in my column gets completed, I'll put up a picture of it in this section of the forum.

That will happen after I get my overhead wire in place which will be the very last thing I do on my layout and then I'll go back and hook up the poles to the drives. 

 

Given that my structure building and scenery detailing moves at a pace of ~1 square foot per 6 months, I should be at that point in about 15 years.

 

In the meantime, I've got a coal hopper motor on my bench, and a nice brass freight motor (Kidder?  Car Works?) that has a matching freight trailer (resin Car Works product) to wrap up - both suffered from naked underbody syndrome and the motor was not decaled.
