Anybody here give up on DCS. I've spent the last hour or so with no new engines to add or TIU not found check network.  This is pretty much a regular occurance if I either power down or close the App once everything is working. Since it's in the basement I'm not big on leaving it powered all the time. And yeah I've read what applies more than once in the DCS Complete Guide. If it matters the track is wired with 12 and drops are every 8 feet. All software is up to date Rev. L TIU. Track is relatively clean. Right now there aree 9 engines on the track. the 2 lashups show as inactive. The two i wanted to run ( e6 and Northern) showed inactive. I deleted them to get them off the inactive list and now I when I tried to add them I get either no new engines to add or no TIU. And yes I've tried 2 tablets and the handheld. The handheld gives me engine not on track. 1 PS2 rest are PS3 and yes I checked the drawbar on the Northern. TIU channels are all fixed. Power to track 1 is off Z4000 track 2 Z4000 track 3 180 brick track 4 180 brick All engines come up dark and sound stays after shutdown. Track signal 10 and all the voltage is 18 or more on the track. The one PS2 does sometimes miss the watchdog and has a BCR in it however that shouldnt factor in since there was no power to tracks 1 and 2. Tracks 1 and 2 have lashups and FWIW I was told the latest software would allow the lashups to stay together but I have to rebuild them after every power down.

I tried to answer anything in advance here that someone might ask so we didn't have to do the back and forth thing.

I tore down my kids O layout with intent to go HO. Plan was to buy MTH again and take advantage of the existing DCS instead of DC/DCC but now I'm not so sure. We're still moving along with the HO just maybe not DCS.

If you see anything that I missed let me know.

Thanks

So maybe you're looking in the wrong places. If the layout works, look at other things like your phone for instance.

What part of the country are you in?   If anywhere close to me I'd be more than happy to visit and see if we can get it worked out.   As I mentioned in a post the other day, I've had TMCC/Legacy and DCS, with the APPS for both running just fine on my layout for years.

Or maybe someone else close by who know DCS can help?     Your descriptions are great, but I'm more of a visual, hands-on trouble shooter.

did you try recover engines after they were deleted, sometimes that works?

also sometimes the app software gets corrupted and if you delete your app software and redownload it then the problem will go away!

o gauge  trains ,music ,computer repair windows 7 and 10!

ASC Tech MTH school completed! 2019 !

again, when you shut down stuff, the phone or tablet can revert to the houses router. Maybe that's the issue?

I don't know what your settings are. Are you set to the houses router? or MTH?

Try shutting the phone off first, and starting the phone up last after the WIU has fully initiated.

If anyone shuts off the TIU while everything else is on, it will at least require a refresh of the app to find stuff.

I'm not sure what a engine recover has to do with rebuilding the consist. You are losing the consist but I don't know why? The latest app version keeps the last consist in the active screen. Something is forcing it out of that screen.

I believe it's just a simple problem here. I believe you are just doing something out of the correct order when you restart a session.

This is why I'm close to pulling the plug. Have the app on 3 Androil devices. Nexus tablet, samsung Galaxy Tab A and Motorola phone. Nexus tablet shows everything active. Tab A says no WIU/TIU. Phone says no WIU/TIU.

Refreshed nexus now it says no WIU/TIU

Could it be a bad WIU? I just rebooted the Tab A after it showed no WIU/TIU and it shows active Northern, E6, and 1 lashup. The other 5 show up as inactive. All engines aren't in handheld and never were. Handheld shows Northern not on track. Remaining engines that are entered in handheld all start. Is the engine reset function in the app the same as the engine recover on the handheld?

You can get that message for a number of reasons. The DCS system's messages are generic. They don't tell you the problem. They just display a reason.

I've gotten the no TIU for poor signal at the track for example. The TIU was on and getting power.

Engine reset is for resetting the engine to either full feature reset or a factory reset that erases any data you entered.

Engine recover is only for finding an engine that got a bad address (out of the normal range) during a procedure.

Man do I miss Barry about now. My bet is you've answered your own question. Were it my layout, I would pull everything except the two engines I was trying to run. Another thing (and I did this on my layout this week), do a TIU feature reset.

I have heard time and again from fellow club members about lash-ups working until you shut down (especially PS3) . Then you're back to square one. I've gotten so when I'm done with the Lash-up, I power down the engines and then delete the lash-up from the remote before I turn everything off. In the long run it is less aggravating to me to just build a new lash-up when I want one.

As for storing trains on my layout; I just make sure they're parked on a siding with the power off. As discussed this year, I have added a DCS RC base in passive mode in my yard area just for the watchdog heartbeat.

I would start by pulling your 9 engines off the track and only running one or two to start until things are straight.

Also take any lighted or sound equipped cars off the rails. Any TMCC or Legacy engines as well.

Just put one engine on and get it running. Then try shutting down and restarting the system.

Is this statement current? Using the latest app version and DCS software?

I don't have this issue (just PS3?) unless it is an old consist that was built with an old DCS version.

I did have an issue with mixed consists of PS2 and PS3 where engines got scrambled or even lost. I believe that was with the last DCS versions (before 6.1).

I certainly don't delete good consists! If you have the latest app version, the consist should stay active and should be able to run in the next session.

Are you using IOS?

I am all android here.

The club is Rev L V 6.1, so yes. At home I run Rev G with V4.3. No problems at all with PS2/PS3 lash-ups. I do use IOS, but just the free version. For lash-ups I'm still using my old cast iron wood burning remote.

That's what i was told but it doesn't. Everything is current.

Did you confirm in each device Wi-Fi settings  that it is connected to the MTH network and not your house router?

Yes everytime I get the no WIU/TIU

Got everything running last nite and then the app crashed. Rebooted the tablet and the app crashed again.

How old is this tab A? Is the software inside it fully up to date?

I had my old phone do the same thing. I was trying to remove unused apps to create more space. Something happened to the software while doing this. I got lucky that it finally fixed itself after several updates. It had nothing to do with the DCS software. It could not run the DCS app until the phone's software was made whole.

Unfortunately there are several apps out there that seem to take over the device I believe. If we try to alter them in any way, the device doesn't work anymore. It can be very frustrating.

I'm trying to figure out if your problem is a problem due to:  1) DCS TIU, 2) MTH WiFi, 3) MTH Appstore APP, 4) Devices or other.

You mention that the club used DCS version 6.1 while your home DCS is ver 4.3.  For the WiFi to operate correctly doesn't the DCS need to be ver 6.1?  The MTH Premium APP supports multi-unit lashups and requires DCS ver 6.1.  Also mentioned was that the basic FREE MTH WiFi app was being used; the FREE version does not support multi-unit lashups.  Unless I missed something above, can you please verify some of these items?

You can have a steam train ...If you'd just lay down your tracks.
