Although we've had more than our fair share of DCS-related frustrations, I have to give kudos to the amazing little MTH Railking Scale NYC RS-1 we bought last year.  Small, inexpensive, and a little juggernaut.

Pickup rollers are like 10" apart so it will never ever crap out in a turnout.  The paint, fit and finish, and detail is great.  It has the full suite of DCS features.  Amazing smoke and nice sounds.  Most importantly, it pulls ... like crazy!  I have a 36' long 2.9% grade and this little locomotive has no problem pulling a consist of 35 freight cars up it.  It also pulled a friend's entire 12 car Atlas California Zephyr set up the grade!  Unbelievable!  Yes, the wheels were spinning and going nowhere when the entire CZ set was on the incline and the locomotive was pulling at 5 smph, but at 12 smph, it had no problems pulling the entire set up that incline.  The decline was a little jerky from all the weight pushing on it.  Oh, and it's $250. All in all, an incredible value.  This thing should have been named Mighty Mouse!

Who else owns one of these and loves the incredible value it offers?

No RS-1's, but I have an Interstate RS-3 that is a RK Scale engine from a couple years ago. It's one of my favorite engines. IMO, RK Scale engines are the best value out there today in command control engines, at around $300 or a little less for brand new diesels. Probably less at some of the larger dealers? If you can do without some of the finer details on the premier engines, these are really great bargains.

I also have an SD45 RK Scale, also from a couple years ago that is another very nice engine, one of the best sounding engines I have. It's another big favorite.
