For just $120, from my local historical society's pop-up sale the other day, I snagged a K Line FA A-B-A set plus some new cars. The second A unit and B Unit are both dummies, and the B unit is later manufacture than the A so I can't use the tether, but it does have a horn! I also got a Wabash TOFC and Boxcar to continue building my "NKP-N&W-Wabash Merger" train. I'm a New York Central molder now, I guess . I went and renamed my layout, actually, to "Cleveland Short Line Ry." from "Cleveland & Western RR", as I discovered that the real Cleveland Short Line was a NYC leasee and had NKP trackage rights. I also bought a NYC work caboose to match my New York Central docksiders, but it needs some work as it has some damage I didn't notice when I bought it (I did see the little peg for the searchlight had broken and needed to be drilled out and replaced, but missed that the one side had a part that was snapped off. Fortunately it's still with the car so I just need to glue it back in place, and fix aforementioned peg and I should be good to go.).

I'm very happy with my new purchases! The prices at the sale were very good, I'd be surprised if anything was left by the end of the day.

I also got a Lockheed Electra in Northwest Airlines colors from the local Savers the week before. It's a great, simple little model which cost me all of 75 cents!

I am going to claim that it was a boxcab electric prototype that sat on J. L. Cowen's desk for many years.

But in reality I am sure it was handmade from a NYC 2344.  It's very heavy and has the horizontal engine (growler) and the front ends from the A unit (coil coupler and deflector).  The lights, pantograph and other hardware source is unknown.  The portholes have been filled in.  It is very well machined, engineered and built.  The magnitraction is not real strong but the rollers are not worn very much.  I'll probably try to add an electronic e unit if there's enough room.

I've seen some of this man creations at the bandit shows in the past but chose not to afford them.  They were all very unique, and  well made.

Not sure if this qualifies as 'cool' but I have two garage sale 6819 helicopter flat cars with no copters and found a package of 2 Lionel copters, new in the blister pack for a really inexpensive price,  on epay of all places.  Even with shipping I consider it a steal.  No more load less 6819's after a couple decades.  Wonder what happened to the original copters?
