Just got this off ePay. No idea when it was made, but someone reprinted an entire one of these, almost 1600 pages!

The originals this old are usually way too fragile to read. I wanted a reading copy.

It's the June 1941 edition, which gives a great snapshot of immediate pre-war rail traffic.

Yesterday and today picked up two "very special" box cars to add to roster which I needed like another hole in my head.  A couple months back also picked up a special cab.  Now the cab was to complete a semblance  representation of the caboose trains that run here at the NCTM.

But what is so special they all belonged to JERRY!  Jerry was a fellow O-Gauger and original "baby boomer" like myself but a little older.  A happy guy always telling jokes.  He and his wife owned a farm with many Quarter Horses and almost as many old John Deer tractors.

My best memory is a train show we did together.  The deal was buy three tables and get a forth free.  So we had a U-shaped end cap two tables each.  I always take dynamic test stand to run engines.  Had a MTH RK 611 on it. I was running it and "playing the whistle" as he returned from the restroom.   When he got to our tables he opened his wallet and bought the engine explaining hearing the whistle he had to have it.

The cab,

Jerry passed last Summer from cancer which was suppose to be in remission.

To Jerry!

OH, a fellow Jerry worked with a HO-moldier and guy from the local toy train shop are selling off his collect for Jerry's wife.

You've got to run them!! Play a little "City of New Orleans" by Steve Goodman in the background and make a nice little video to share with us!!

That is one of the nicest looking passenger sets in my opinion. Enjoy!!

Agree. But I prefer the Arlo Guthrie version.

Arlo's pretty good but the one by 'The Highwaymen' is my personal favorite. Hard to beat Willie's distinctive voice

Sorry Sam but the best version is by Arlo Guthie

Thanks guys,  I'm trying to force myself to pick up some nice trains in addition to all the junkers I buy to restore.  I kept looking at this one over and over and eventually pulled the trigger.  I'll be curious to see what the set box number is since it is covered up under stick on tag.  I don't expect the 265E ever came with those particular 027 cars, but who knows in the world of uncataloged sets...

I found these on EBay.  I had loads of fun with them 50 years ago.  I'm going to use them for a steel mill I'm building 20170707_145047

I had something similar to that 50 years ago also!  I built with them a lot!!

I had em too, but man 50 years is long ago.. I'm old now I guess it was about 40 years ago for me I think 1975 or 77 when I got my sets.  Got one like you have pictured and got the bridge one.  I think I sold them both on ebay about 20 years ago lol.

My guess is my mother threw it out by 1970.  She threw everything out that we didn't stash away somewhere.

Someone a few years ago offered off-color re-pop parts for these sets. (Possibly more durable plastic. I recall the originals being slighlty brittle.

I was researching the prewar versions and ran across a toy info site with them. I don't recall the name but a search might help.

Stock, custom, and made to order panels too.

I think it had an 60s version and a later revival.  Might have been different brands though.

There were BIG ones too; "sky scrapers".

Nice find!  I, too, had a Kenner's Girder and Panels set in the early 1960s.  My set came with a battery-powered elevator and lots of straight and curved road sections. I used the curved road sections to build parking garages for my Matchbox cars.  There was and still is something about the geometry of parking garage ramps that fascinates me. I didn't realize the structures were approx. HO scale, but that makes sense.

This set and American Plastic Bricks were my favorite (architectural) toys.

Enjoy creating with your sets!

Matt,

My wife for fathers day actually picked this Lionel light up for me just recently, for my new Train Room/Bar in our new home.  We take possession on the 12 of July.  This Lionel light has cool rail sounds each time you turn the light on.  I have no idea how old the Lionel light is or what old store it came out of.  This is the 1st time I have ever seen this particular Lionel Light, it may have been made for a store promotional, I do not really know however.  Anyway she looks cool with an LED Light in her.

These are neat for us O-Gaugers that date back to the late 40's.  My Lady's son gave me one for Christmas 2007.

PRRRON,

You took a better picture than I did for sure.  Do you have any idea of how old these lights are and were they sold out of certain stores or what?

PCRR/Dave

I recall that Lowes had them for sale just before Christmas 2007.  I had thought about buying one.  But, when I went back they were all gone.  So felt very lucky and fortunate that was given this that Christmas.

Ron

Here are my latest acquisitions.

A McCoy 4-4-4 engine (1957? not sure of the year engine #3512 any help would be great for identifying the year) engine weights 8.5 lb's!. 1969 Gondola, Twin peak flat with load, 1967 Hopper and a 1966 caboose.
There is just something about McCoy that are great, they are large and I can see them!

Purchase off the forum (best people to deal with!), Items look never run.

A BIG thanks to Mark Boyce for pointing me to this MTH engine.

My ONLY disappointment was with that Cheap,"CRAPPY" near-worthless "Quick Start Manual" that MTH (Mike Wolf) includes saving money on a $500.00 engine.  To add insult there is, at least of two days ago when I contacted them, no downloadable full manual available from their web!

The engine looks great!  I really like it, and am glad you got it!!

Yes, what Matt wrote is probably MTH's solution; a generic manual.  I still like model specific manuals, but at work I have had to get used to this sort of thing too.

PRRRONBH, Just download any PS3 manual, they are all the same. Most peopel dont read the manuals. I opened one for the first time if 4 years the other day to learn how to program the DCC decoder for consists but other than that, not necessary for me.

Matt, they are NOT all the "same."  Where are the function switches and pots for the BL2?  Is there a preferred exhaust port to load smoke fluid?

Since of my 130 O-Gauge power units 92 are MTH (only a dozen are RK) I do know my way around MTH stuff.  So found the function switches/pots.  But still do NOT know if there is a preferred stack to load the fluid.   The BIG point is a $500.00 engine and a CHEAP generic "quick start manual."

If one was a newbie to MTH engines?
