Trying to figure out how these things come apart. I have removed 4 screws from the bottom of the car. The very top of the car seems a little loose at both ends but tight in the middle. Nothing else is even remotely loose. Can't figure out where to go from here?
Any help someone can add would be greatly appreciated. This is a Santa Fe car from I believe about 1997.

Grab both ends and twist the car. The roof should pop right off. A little crude but that is how it is done.

Thank you very much as I was having the same problem even with the instructions from MTH. After much perseverance, the roof finally popped right off. Yes, very crude "holding the car at both ends and twisting in opposite directions" as stated by MTH instructions but it worked. Also, the screws are placed differently on some of the cars like the Observation and Baggage cars.
Also appreciate the recommendation on the Golden Gate Depot 1930's-1950's "Little People." They fit nicely in the seats.
That is very interesting. Almost seems that every type of MTH lighted car is different to open.
The MTH caboose(Philadelphia & Reading RR, # 423) I have I had to open it from the bottom to get to the light bulbs, took out 4 small phillips head screws, then pushed the sides in just a little and the roof comes off.
