Dremel Right Angle Attachment

I use the right angle attachment and also, ditch the dremel brand cutoff wheels for Gyros brand.  Get larger diameters than the dremel ones.

Not sure why, but my Dremel had issues where the head would spin. Never could get it off and research indicated I was not alone. It may be a particular model but I was never successful in adding the right angle attachment.

I, too, always struggle to get a perfectly square cut with my Gargraves track. But I found that a Dremel flex shaft attachment with a 2" Gyros reinforced cut off wheel would give me a pretty good result for cutting a single rail in the middle of a track section, as you would for making an isolated track section or for non-derailing capability. But for cutting all 3 rails of flexed track to length and at an angle, nothing beats a mini miter chop saw, e.g. Proxxon.  Another method to square and finish imperfectly cut track is with a horizontal belt sander. Regardless of cutting method, a good file is needed to remove the inevitable burrs and sharp edges on the cut rails.

This little jig and a Hack saw with a fine blade work for me every time producing square cut track sections.

Another option is the Dremel Sawmax with a metal-cutting wheel. Like most tools, once you buy it you will find other uses for it and wish you bought one sooner.

I use the Dremel right angle attachment occasionally when fitting track.  However, for the majority of my track cutting for my most recent layout build, I used the 6" cutoff saw from Harbor Freight.

I second John’s recommendation on the HF 6” cut off saw. When I built my 5 rail track it definitely was the tool for the job. Not a tool I reach for all the time but it is very handy when you need it.
