I have a Lionel Santa Fe FT Diesel #158 conventional that I am going to install an ERR CC system into it. My question is what are the 3 wires pink, purple, black that are plugged into the side of the rear coupler? Tracing the wires they go to the Railsound board. The coupler is not electromagnet coupler.

Those are from a hall effect sensor I suspect. For older RailSounds boards, that generates the diesel ramp-up signal. The ERR RailSounds Commander doesn't need it, so you can lose the sensor and the wiring.
Thank you, I thought it might be a sensor, but could not see one. It must be inside the carriage
Since that's a command upgradable unit, you can just drop in the Lionel TMCC and Railsounds boards and upgrade it without doing the wiring and mechanical work.
