The smoke unit generates smoke, but the fan motor does not spin.  I pulled it out and attached a 9v battery to the motor...dead.  I replaced it with a new Lionel smoke motor. Oh, I checked. It ran like a banshee. Still not spinning. I confirmed it was not running.  Turned the volume near off and could not hear the motor spinning. The resistors heat up and produce smoke.  I pulled it out, and put a 9v on it and it ran fine.  I looked carefully at the wiring and didn't see anything obvious. Oh, I also tried a few feature resets.  A feature reset did not solve the problem.  A factory reset did not fix it either.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Seems are destined to have murphy's law working against your electronics...... I still say Ed, too many features packed into these units...... and not enough QUAILITY CONTROL'.... As always'... good luck with this NEW problem..........👺

Ted,

Thanks for adding zero value to this thread -- your comments didn't even come close to answering the OP's question.
