Gfw Trainfair!

Hello everyone my name is George Werderich and I’m a Boy Scout from Yorkville Illinois. I am currently working on achieving the highest honor in Boy Scouting which is the Eagle Scout rank. Part of the rank is that I have to do a community service project, in which I will be building a pavilion-style train station for the 7.5 gauge Prairie State Railroad Club. The project will cost a lot of money, so I thought it would be a perfect reason to host a train show as putting on a train show is something I’ve wanted to do all my life. The train show will be hosted at my local American legion and will have 4 train layouts. One of the train layouts will be an O scale modular layout that the Midwest Division of the Train Collectors Association brings to many shows in the Chicagoland area. The second layout will be an interactive ho scale layout which will be put together by the Valley Model Railroad club and they are well known for letting everyone run their trains. The third layout will be put up by Denny’s Trains and Things a local hobby shop. Last but not least the fourth layout will be a fun floor layout put up by the president of the Midwest division and a fellow club member. All four layouts will be fun examples of model railroading ranging from scale railroading to the toy train side of the hobby. I will also have a garage sale at my show consisting of model train-related items that were donated to me during the process of planning for the show. The show will have free admission but donations will be great fully accepted.  Thank you all for your time and I hope to see everyone there! If you have any questions please email me at gfwtrains@icloud.com or post a comment on this post and ill be sure to answer it. thanks!

Hey George, for those of us who are out of state could you setup a way for us to contribute to the project? I would love to go to the train show, but 1500+ miles is a bit far!

George's Dad here.  Thanks so much for the interest.  Below is a link to the Prairie State Railroad's website with more information on George's Eagle Scout community service project.  A link to make a direct donation to the project can be found on that page.  It has been so awesome to see all the synergy in the hobby and support for George.  The project and more so the fundraising is a big undertaking for a 16 year old young man.  Thanks so much to everyone.  I know that some cannot make it, but I hope to see some of you all at GFW Trainfair on April 24th... and to the Prairie State Railroad open house on June 11th (there is more information on that in the link below as well).

Info (and donation link) on George Werderich's Eagle Scout community service project

George and his family are great ambassador's of our hobby and I would encourage anyone in the area to support him on his Eagle Scout Project by attending.  For those of us further away from Chicagoland I'd encourage making a contribution to the Prairie State Railroad in George's name to help him with the ginormous fundraising necessary to complete this Eagle Scout Project.

Thank you so much for the kind words! As the show is getting closer I would like to encourage everyone to go. The show is free of charge so even if you cannot donate to the project it would still mean a lot to me if anyone could come and support me. If you like trains I can assure you that it will be a fun time!
