I am currently taking up all of my track to build a layout with a better track plan. I will be supplying power with a ZW-L and a ZW-C (using 4 180 watt bricks) and running the TIU in passive mode. I am wondering whether these recent transformers need to have high current chokes installed before the connections to the TIU.

Yes, any transformer needs them (choke in series) when used in passive mode and a TIU, to prevent the transformer from degrading or attenuating the DCS signal.

I just ordered Bourns 2305-H-RC 16.4 amp chokes from Digi-Key.
