INNER WORKINGS OF A MTH TRIPLEX

I recently had one of these that had a bad tender harness, that plugs into the back of the loco, took a while to figure out why no speed control or chuff. On your pictures, the stripes on the flywheel look like they are worn off, unless you have them covered for protection. This loco is impressive, and the sounds are great, although it is BIG!   This particular engine had a ton of issues, I'm installing ERR for this reason. There is an original Tach strip installed on the flywheel that someone taped over with another homemade tach strip. I removed the homemade one because it was never installed right and it was flapping all over the place. being I'm installing ERR there will be no need for a tach strip any longer.

 Yes i agree with you this is a very impressive engine, and very well designed by MTH.

It is the most fascinating steam engine I've ever seen.

BTW: What is ERR and what does it do?

Needs a Super-Chuffer.

This engine is PS2 I think it's the first version

 ERR is- The  Electric Railroad Company, Which converts conventional engine's to TMCC, it's also used to upgrade older TMCC engines with more features. Many people use it to convert MTH PS2 to TMCC .

John, this one doesn't get a super chuffer, but the next two i have waiting will get super chuffers. I will be in touch.

It is really cool to see inside an impressive loco like this one. Very impressive engineering indeed. Thanks for giving us the inside look!!

Very impressive look at the gears.  I have this engine and after DOA because of a bad board, I had very good luck with this engine.  Looks and sounds great and love the smoke that comes out of the tender.

A couple of guys down here have the Erie Triplex. I have always wanted to see inside of one of these engines.

Fascinating loco; the ERR will be great in it.

I have the RK version - a pretty nice piece itself, very scale "like' in its presentation/component sizing - but that Big One is fascinating. Anyone who takes our O-scale equipment lightly, and who would call the MTH Triplex a "toy", knows not of what he speaks. I love delving into these big steamers. Very impressive design.
