I have just loaded the LSU on my Macbook (Under parallels running XP) and downloaded Legacy v1.5. This went well, as did connecting to my Legacy base and backing up my system.

Then I opened up a brand new 'Black module' from its packing. This is where things went wrong.

The first potential problem was that the module fell apart as soon as I took it out of the plastic packing. The two pieces of the casing were not glued together. I didn't worry too much about this though, as a tiny spot of glue soon fixed that.

But, the module appears to be quite dead. Any attempt to write to it is rewarded with a write error message telling me that there is no module in the base. I checked that the base itself is OK by re-installing V1.4 from a blue module. But the black module will do absolutely nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas as to anything I could check or may have missed?

No, all of the pins appear to be straight and true. It just doesn't seem to work.

I thought that I'd ask before contacting Lionel, just in case I'd missed some vital step. I followed the instructions step by step though, and I repeated the process many times. I was able to restore my base from the computer OK, so there is no problem with the serial connection. And the fact that the blue module works fine makes me think that the base is Ok and recognises valid modules.  I guess that I just got unlucky and managed to buy a dead one.

My board didn't come adrift when the casing fell apart, as the little pin held it in place. It's mounted in the module with the chip side uppermost.

Well, I emailed Lionel via the website yesterday, and hopefully they'll respond soon. Then  I hope that I can arrange for a replacement black module. (I doubt if these are worth trying to repair.)

With any luck it will only be a few weeks before I shall be able to join the rest of you and upgrade to V1.51.
