It's been a couple of years sense I've played with my trains. I build a new house and just now was able to get my work bench up and working. I'll start the layout this fall if things go my way. Anyway, I've got my Legacy, Cab1 base and DCS hooked up and I'm in the process on getting my recently acquired Legacy Milwaukee heavy Mikado operating. I have successfully added and numbered the engine using the run/program switch (also loaded the module) and am able to run it in Cab1 mode but can't run it in Legacy. I did update the base and remote to 1.6. Any ideas?

The Legacy base also doubles as a TMCC base, so I would start by removing the TMCC base from the layout. To run the locomotive in Legacy mode (via the Legacy remote), you will need to change the control setting in the legacy remote. To do this, enter the engine ID in Legacy, press 'info', then press 'scroll' until the 'control' tab is selected. Change the control type to 'leg' (for Legacy), then press CTC to exit. The Legacy remote will now control the locomotive in Legacy mode.

Hope this helps!

John thanks for the reply.

I ended up disconnecting everything and started over. I not sure if this was the problem but on my second try I hooked up the Cab1 first. When I tried the program the engine I kept hearing a beep as if I was pressing a button only I wasn't. I pooped the battery cover off and one of the batteries fell out. After inspection I noticed one of the negative terminals had broken off.

Long story short, I left the Cab1 remote out of the setup but did include the Cab1 base while setting up. Everything worked like a charm. So I'm guessing that the Cab1 remote was causing some interference.

Glad it worked - I forgot to mention it is possible to have the Legacy and Cab1 bases on the same layout, as long as both bases are linked with the serial Y-cable included with the Legacy system. The connection diagram is shown in the Legacy manual (around page 7, depending on the manual revision).
