Always wonderful to know what is going on there. I'd love and happily pay to visit that facility one day. Sounds like they are getting close to occasionally letting that happen.

I was hoping the report would talk about their engines. I know they've purchased/acquired more steam engines lately and are always working on what they have.

It seems funny that with all the work and investment that went into this project, the Age of Steam facility did not end up as a museum. AFAIK, it remains the privately owned facility of an affluent man that wished to create living railroad history as a hobby. In that regard, he has succeeded.

There is another hobbyist in PA by the name of Bennett Levin that has done a similar thing in creating his own Broadway Limited train pulled by two E8 diesel locomotives. The restoration, in Pennsylvania railroad colors and lettering, makes the train look exactly like it did when it rode the rails during the 1940's and 1950's. I guess that its nice riding the rails on your own train with your own crew, just because you like it. Ben's private train is often displayed at 30th street station in Philadelphia during national train day in May.

"The building will also house a ticket office, waiting room, gift shop and ADA-compliant restrooms for the convenience of groups taking scheduled, guided tours through the Age of Steam Roundhouse starting this coming summer.  Details regarding these upcoming scheduled tours and advance-sale ticketing will be announced on our website as soon as they become available."

Its not finished yet.  He's building a complete restoration facility, and allowing it to be used by outside engines as well as his own.  In any case, it's his work, and his investment.
