I believe the manual recommends that ,because the operating track is designed for 10v-12v, not the 18v of a command control TMCC/legacy layout.

18v pushes the risk of overheating and damage to the operating track section when activated.

You could try giving the rails on this section a good cleaning. I have some locos that are more sensative to dirty track than others. The newest Legacy stuff seems to have the most issues on track that "appears" clean but really isn't.

Otherwise, the battery/capacitor might be your last resort.

There are a number of Legacy locomotives that lose sound with brief power interruptions, I just put a 9V battery (or equivalent) in them.  Nowadays, I use the YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement, I'm good friends with the guy that designed them.

Your post stated you have a Legacy engine and you do not have a Legacy engine.  It is TMCC.

I think you're mistaken in this case Marty, can't believe I caught you in an error.   I think they just put TMCC in the name in error.

Correct John.  That was Lionel calling it a TMCC engine.   The Lionel information is usually correct.    I missed talking with you Saturday in New Jersey.  I know you had another event.   The layout is looking fantastic with many new additions.  

Somehow they just stuck TMCC into the heading, somewhat odd.  Of course, this being a 2008 engine, that was in the transition period from TMCC to Legacy, I guess some of the descriptions didn't get properly updated for new models.

Easy Legacy test, just set the CAB2 to Legacy engine type, if it runs, it's Legacy.
