Looks like the first YouTube video of one posted just fyi. Looks like the smoke box color is a darker grey, but the version unboxed didn’t have a red cab roof. Time will tell with how they all come out. Hopefully the set gets moved up release wise.

#1343 was pictured in the catalog with the later DGLE roof scheme and set back headlight.

Really curious how they did the gear box on these MTH rebuilds, …..did they leave the MTH gear box alone? Or did they make them back drive?  ….to be sure the Cannon motor is present, …..If someone has their’s …..is it back driveable? Or locked gears? …IMO, many of the Big L’s gear boxes leave a lot to be desired, where as MTH’s Premier steam gear boxes are built like battle tanks …….

I should have one on the way from Ro when they get back from vacation next week.

If no one has an answer by then. I'll try and shove mine down the track without power and see.

I think ",most " of Lionels newer steamers are back drivable.  One exception may be that 0-6-0 with the octopus tether. I'll have to double check that one, but it's geared strictly for switching.

Looks good Chris, looking forward to getting mine when it shows. I have this number and the 1369 on order. I know the tender isn't 100% right but for what these cost I'm not too worried about it.

I'm pretty sure these will have Kadee mounts on the tender, wondering if they put one on the pilot.

I’ll send more pictures when I get home and let you know.

Ryan, he said he’s getting a replacement engine from his dealer, …so I doubt we’ll ever know what exactly happened with the engine demoed in the video ……buuuuuuuuuuuut, …..I have some suspicions,…..🫣

Not gearbox problems again! I hope this isn't another epidemic like the moguls.

Remember the good old tmcc days? Aside from the nylon gears in the CCII niagara. Gearbox problems were pretty much unheard of.

I sure hope this is an isolated incident. Never fails, years go by and I get the courage back up to preorder and there's more issues lol!

Well, I guess when I get mine in, probably in the next two weeks I can always send it over to Pat to have a look inside and determine what is at play(yeah, I said it) and make sure that there is no more playing going on. Sort stinks. If this is having a gearbox issue, what does that say about maybe the Hippos coming too?

It means it might be like the first Legacy k4. Where this problem all started.

If it's not designed /setup right. The worm gear can slide over the intermediate gear so far it no longer makes contact with the axle gear.

It's easy to see. If you look behind the spokes of the powered axle. You can see the intermediate shaft sliding in and out of the gearbox in relation to the rotation of the worm.

"If this is having a gearbox issue".... that says I'm about to cancel my hippo as well.

Let’s not speculate, and remain optimistic just yet, …..if Chris doesn’t mind, hopefully he can tell us if his model is backdrivable, and if he can see evidence of the forward facing motor …….that will give us some clues….

@Andrew B. weathering could be an option, but also, if you love the model, the paint can be addressed without weathering,….with the right mix of black & dark green, these can be done correctly with minimal invasive measures,….

even when the CCII Niagaras decided to soil the bed, Mike Reagan stepped to the plate and knocked one out of the park,…..thems were the days ……problem, identity, resolve,……done ….

Guys - Once I get my replacement I'll report back on how it operates. The motor is rear facing, you can see it angled from high front to low rear in some of the clips. Speaking with my buddy Sid he is thinking they may have used the frame from previous Mikado runs. I don't believe those models have had gear issues. The engine runs beautifully in forward and reverse, only issue is when it is coupled with other cars causing a higher load on the motor, could be a board issue too perhaps. I was texting with a friend yesterday and he tested his out and was not able to replicate the issue mine has, so let's take a deep breath for now!

As for the color, some have mentioned it's PRR, they were never always the the same. That being said, it's a bit frustrating that it's not the Brunswick we expected. I think it may be a great candidate for weathering if you're into that sort of thing. Nothing is more prototypical than a PRR locomotive that looks like it was left outside for 20 years without a wash.
