Hey Bobby. There's a 4 car set (6-82558), a 2 car add-on set (6-82563), and a soundstation dinner (6-82885). So, 7 total. Tyler.
thanks !!
I have the entire set. Seven is correct.
It's up to 8 now, including the theater/business car for some roads. For older roads, I'm thinking they might do an RPO at some point.
hey matt, what is the lionel item # on the 8th car ??
There is no 8th car for the set you are referencing. I have the set too. Beautiful set.
looking into what matt posted above
were is the best deal for this set of cars ??

The "8th car" I was referring to is the "Theater Car" which is a business car with a flat tail with a full window. Lionel has announced them in the current catalog. Technically, it's a business/excursion train item and the roads seem limited to those roads which retained passenger cars for this purpose. That type of car is a modern creation (post Amtrak). Lionel's features a WiFi camera so you can broadcast your layout. I'm ordering one for the UP excursion set I have on order. For older roads that didn't make it past Amtrak, an RPO would be a nice addition and would be the "8th car" for those sets. The stock numbers are as follows:
- 6-84229 -- Conrail "#9"
- 6-84230 --Norfolk-Southern "Buena Vista"
- 6-84231 -- CSX "Alabama"
- 6-84232 -- Union Pacific "Fox River"
According to the write-up, the cars offered are based on a Conrail rebuild, now used by CSX. I've seen photos of similar cars on other roads. The camera element is what I like. I ordered the UP excursion set (minus the diner) to haul behind my Big Boy and Heritage Units.
In regards to the "Southern Railway" set, I misread the post. That isn't one that's covered by the Theater car. I believe the NS "Southern" business train is not in the original Southern Railway passenger paint, so you can't technically pull off the "business train" with the original colors, but I won't tell anyone.
