I am working to install the Lionel Crossing Gate #14098.  The gate has three wires, red, black, and yellow.  I'm using it with a Lionel activator track.  The activator track has a black/white wire and a black wire.  The Lionel instruction manual says a yellow wire comes out of the activator.  The diagram is very confusing.

My question is what wires from the gate are connected with what wires on the activator?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Agreed the instructions are a bit confusing.

For the crossing gate with 3-wires (red, black, yellow), the yellow wire(s) connect to the outer-rail of the activator track section.  Flip over the activator track and it should look something like left photo above; this photo is NOT of an actual activator track but should be very similar.  In the photo, the solid-black wire is the one connected to the outer-rail.  I suspect it will be the same as yours.

In which case: connect the yellow wire(s) to this solid-black wire.  The black-white wire is then unused.  As the diagram shows, connect the crossing gate's red and black wires to the train transformer.
