Fellas (and Ladies):

I'm finally getting around to hooking up some accessories on my basement layout.  Some time ago, I picked up a Lionel Transformer (6-32923) strictly to supply some of my layout accessories.

Much to my surprise, there is no indication which terminal post is positive and which is negative.  Any one have an idea?  The transformer is not labeled in any way nor is there any mention of this in the instructions.  (I'm not really sure how this could have slipped through QC/China...but I digress.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

There is no positive or negative in AC or this transformer.

If you are using this in conjunction with other AC power supplies, just pick one orientation and phase it to your other transformers according to GATPP(Generally Accepted Transformer Phasing Practice).  A good method for this can be found HERE.

If you find the phasing is off compared to the rest of your layout, switch the connections at the binding posts instead of at the plug(which is a challenge because of the polarized plug).

Tony,

You do not say how many accessories you plan to run but there is one thing you will find out soon enough. Because of their design, Lionel's accessories each like their own specific voltage setting to operate optimally. This could boil down to a seperate supply for each accessory (#97, #164 etc.). When you visit a show or go to YORK, search out early Lionel Type V or Type Z transformers. They are substantial and each one gives you 4 seperate voltage control knobs. They are also breaker protected. I use two on my layout to operate 8 different accessories. People are amazed at how well each accessory performs. BTW, these are the predecessors to the VW & ZW but take up less space can be bought for a fraction of the price.
