I am about to get this set and the add on set. Cant wait to get my hands on this. I have always wanted on of these models. I passed on the originals that came up from time to time used on ebay for several reasons. One being the motor trucks zinc pest issue and lack of available parts.

I ask ryan at a show a couple of years ago.I asked him if they had every given thought to re releasing this set with legacy and he told me they were working on it. Now my desire to have a good looking well detailed reliable operating acela set is finally a reality. Thanks ryan and dave.

My questions to all of you that got the whole set are you happy you did and were the issues such as the broken nose cone minor across the board with the prototype schemed sets.

Lastly would you say this one and the original set is lionels holy grail as far as models go. Meaning detail, features and overall model in general or is it the visionline bigboy maybe? Let me know what you think as I await to get my set with add on cars😁

Roger,

I have all the cars and love this beautiful set! I have not had any problems (and hope I don't jinx myself saying so.) Whether it is a holy grail is going to be in the eyes of the beholder. I am a frequent traveler on the Acela so I can readily appreciate all its exterior and interior details, sounds, and operating features. IMHO, the Bistro Car in the expansion pack is desirable to fully enhance the set because it provides the interior sounds and conductor calls that travelers are accustomed to hearing. (But it doesn't call out the specific station stops nor "the cafe service is now available".) The above all said, I can never suggest to anyone that spending three thousand dollars on a toy train is a necessary purchase. This was my most expensive train expenditure ever and is a delicious luxury. No buyers remorse.  But I'm sure I'll jump on the purchase of the Amtrak Avelia Liberty set when Lionel announces it!!

"Holy grail?" Interesting . . . . . merriam-webster.com shows the definition of holy grail as "an object or goal that is sought after for its great significance" Of course, the term, holy grail, as it's used nowadays is very subjective. I suppose a certain Lionel electric train set could be considered a holy grail to some.

I only hope that Roger will be as pleased with this new train set as Bruce is with his set.

What else did the original have that this new one lacks other than the auto - doors?  Was a great feature for certain.

With having the rear engine also powered, that would seem an improvement over the first issue. COuld someone give a brief comparison of the features of each please?
