By the time the Traingineers are finished with this layout there should not be a need to get underneath the table, however there is a good 18" from floor to top of table base arch so getting access underneath is very doable.

You call 18" access underneath to the top of the arch is "very doable?"

How old are you?

Trainworks should have just velcro'd some crappy fabric up around the edge so the old guys on this forum could easily access the underside of the layout that they did not pay for nor will ever see in person.

Can't you guys just enjoy it for what it is? I"m sure that the prospective owner is OK with not having a full size door leading to the underside of his layout.

Very nice design by the way! I've seen the examples on your website using the vivid postwar green and it looked sweet.

This layout is really beautifull. AS far as getting underneath it for work you can simply lift it up on one side and set that side on a couple of stands.

But what my minds eye sees is removing the two shelf ends to be used for any of a hundred things and join the two Lionel cutout sectins with a 1X12 board. Add a little creative application and you could have one very cool walk under bridge for a shelf layout.

Good Day,

Curious, what is the table top size to this 4' x 8' ?

Frank

Dorcie,

Mario (GG1MAn) may be on to something.  MAybe one of the end shelf units can be removable or open to provide access to underneath.  Even if the Traingineers have the layout fine tuned so that operations never requires going underneath, access to add dramatic lighting or a contrasting backing to emphasize the wonderful LIONEL bridge or even access for storagespace could be a welcome addition to that fine layout table.

Looks like the two sides are done with a CNC machine. One of my former customers has one that they use to make the tops and bottoms for bay and bow windows. I know they can program it to rout anything out. I think I'll get in touch with them to see if they would make me the front and back. The sides are easier to do.

I inquired about the Trainworx train tables a couple of years ago at York.  If I remember they were in the $3000 - $5000 range.  They have several versions, great looking table!

The access issue might be resolved by modifying the shelf unit.  Installation of a few hinges on the end shelf section should provide easier access under the layout.

I saw those bridges at York, so much for great thinking on my part.

Oh yea, did I ever tell you about my idea to put fan driven smoke units in engines?

Mario, I still think that your best idea was to put little electric motors into the engines, and then provide power via the rails. I hope it catches on.
