I have a Lionel SD40 28547. I have removed the screw from under the truck, below the motor which usually allows the motor to be lifted off the truck and the truck from the frame.
It seems to be still firmly attached to the truck. What am I missing here?

Some of the trucks actually have a screw either on the underside or near the pickup screws that holds the motor bracket to the truck. Just fought that one out on a set of trucks here! 
Look at the bottom edge away from the couplers, is there a screw recessed there? Also, look on top near where the pickup connects.
Thanks for the pics John. This is a six wheel truck. The motor sits between the two inboard pair of drivers. I had to remove the screw that holds the inboard roller assembly to truck and also has the roller power wire lug under it. In addition the two inboard flathead screws that hold the sideframes to the truck had to be removed. These three are accessible from the topside of the frame through a curved slot.
Was this designed by German's? They could care less about the servicing too.

Pete, I'm not sure the SD-80's use the same truck as your SD-40. On the bottom side of the truck just behind the outward roller there's a recessed screw also that holds the motor.

Yep, I had heard of the trucks with the extra screws, but I hadn't actually seen one until recently.
That's alot different than the SD-80 trucks from what I remember. To be honest that's one thing I don't care for with the new parts diagrams. the older ones as illustrations showed more how things went together,and now they show it disassembeled laid out for part numbers. I do like what Mike is doing with service but it still would be nice to have illustrations of how it comes apart or put together.
