I would love to see this engine released in a Legacy, or even better, a Vision version.  However, this engine was apparently part of the lawsuit MTH won against Lionel and for some reason Lionel cannot make it again.  This is too bad.  The 2000 engine, 6-28063, looked absolutely great.  I personally would prefer the original Lionel tooling of one of the production engines.  MTH has issued the prototype T1s multiple times already.

The Lionel engine has some operational issues that hopefully would be fixed with a re-issue.  Only two double-chuffs per revolution (instead of four), no cruise, and the center drivers are too wide and have caused shorting on some types of turn outs.

Ron, I think they could reissue it because the B&O EM-1 was also a part of the lawsuit, and that has been reissued.

I have the original, so I probably wouldn't be interested in a reissue. But I would love to see the unskirted one with the portholes. Remember the catalog before the one announcing the T1 and Lionel pictured the porthole version with the PRR heavyweight passenger cars? To my knowledge this engine has never been done in die-cast.

I always have a problem when it comes to terminology for the PRR T1.  The only two engines that were skirted were the two prototypes, 6110 and 6111 (MTH's model).  The other 50 were born without skirts.  Additionally, 6110/6111 had much sharper bows and twin smokestacks compared to the rest of the fleet.

Anyway, when I hear about an "un-skirted" T1 I think of either 6110 or 6111 later in life when the skirts were removed for easier maintenance.  To me, skirted or un-skirted refers to 6110/6111 in their various stages of life.

The other 50 T1s were delivered with shrouding around the front pilot wheels only and this shrouding had portholes.  There was no other skirting in order to better maintain the engines.  It did not take long before even this shrouding was removed so most all wheels and machinery was easily accessible (Lionel's model).  However, there were some of these T1s that still had the portholes when they were scraped.

I think most books use "prototype" when referring to 6110/6111, and "production" for the fifty 5500 series T1s.

I'm not sure there has been any O scale/gauge model of an un-skirted 6110/6111; the only ones I've seen are skirted like MTH's model.

There have been several manufacturers that have made O scale/gauge models of the production T1s as-built with shrouding and portholes, as well as models depicting T1s later in life without shrouding.

Now back to the original post.  I would like to see Lionel produce a Legacy or Vision Line model of a production PRR T1, with (as built) or without the shrouding.  Either one would be great!  But I would prefer the as-built version since Lionel has already done the late in life version.

I want 6110 as built with Legacy.  Yes, MTH built it, and I'll most likely get the PS-1 version at some point as I have little faith that Lionel will make a Legacy version of the 6110.

As I have mentioned on other posts: I have 3 of these beauties,my favorite steam engine.  I may have even seen one as a little boy, since my uncles always took me to see the trains.  They were relegated to mail by then, running from Pittsburgh to Greensburg at that time

Anyway, the MTH 6110,a Sunset 3rd Rail modified version, and the Lionel stripped version are at home.  The Sunset version is the smoothest runner of the three, all of them TMCC and EOB.  I would get a 6111 if offered by Lionel, and maybe another of the stripped down versions.

Ahh,my favorite steam engine!
