My thoughts for the V2 catalog are this…

The ET44s will be the big, new engine.  This is a given since they have been announced and publicized.  I have three on order and I can’t wait to get them.

They will have, I am guessing, 3-4 scale steam locomotives.  The steam offerings will be on the light as this is a V2 catalog and the 125 anniversary catalog in Jan 2025 is on the horizon. So one big steam, one upper mid, and one affordable scale offering is my guess.  I am waiting for them to release the Reading and Northern T-1 and all the sister variations.  Thought that could be a 2025 offering.

Like I said, the ET44 will be the main diesel.  Maybe a new SD 50/60/70 variant based on the new SD50 tooling that looks great.  I am guessing more CSX ES44s in heritage, though that is just another ES44 in a third catalog in a row.  We will see.  SD70Ace in NS heritage re-release.  This would finish the SD70Ace NS heritage that Ryan said they started in the 2023v2 catalog.  Another B-B switcher from EMD/GE/Alco.  Oh, and as a side note we might  see CPKC new paint ES44s.

A few freight and passenger cars and a couple complete sets with loco.  These complete sets are always interesting as they usually offer a great set for a pretty decent price. I really want to see either NS or BNSF executive trains with modern diesels.  The NS being pulled by a SD60E (which we haven’t seen SD60E tooling for some time) or a BNSF with an ES44 pulling.

Light on the Christmas or Halloween as they won’t be able to get new Christmas offerings here by this year’s holiday season.  Maybe something like a one-off F-19 Christmas/Halloween paint.  (I should have ordered one of those darn it.). Anyway, I digress.

I am thinking a new-ish LC2.0 offering in semi-scale or traditional.  Maybe another 1 or 2 traditional engine offering.  A few freight cars.

A few reminders of sets cataloged in the V1 edition.

OH, I ALMOST FORGOT - the Base3 will be in the catalog.  Probably will cover 4 pages itself.

I could go on with a list of what I wish for, but I think the 2025v1 would be a better place for this.

Again, a shorter catalog because it is V2 and because 125th anniversary is on the horizon.  I am thinking no more than 70-75 pages.

Now @Dave Olson and Ryan @Conrail6358 can check to see how close I am to predicting the real catalog. 😉

I'm curious, when is the scheduled release date for the catalog? Two weeks about?

Secondly, if you like something or the idea of a specific thing that they make or potentially could, good. If you don't like something, why not just say nothing and move along? I'm talking about the licenced stuff you may or may not like. Who cares if you don't like it? That's okay.

Thirdly, whatever does come out as usual, some of us will be okay, others estatic, others irritated, and others completely and utterly irate. Take the catalog for what it is, just something you may or may not be interested in.

That being said, I really don't know what I'd like to see as this usually is the shorter catalog. I doubt that there should be anything I would want or need unless it is a caboose for any of the engines I don't have one at the moment. Even then, I could skip the catalog. See what comes I suppose.

The O scale double-door 50' box cars with end doors have never been offered in the Grand Trunk Western 1950's scheme or the Grand Trunk Western 1960's scheme.

Still waiting for those.

The O scale Pullman-Standard double-door 60' Auto Parts boxcars need to be produced in Grand Trunk Western and Canadian National Railway paint schemes.

The O scale Pullman-Standard single door 60' box car needs to be made in C&O Chesapeake and Ohio and Chessie System, CNW Chicago & NorthWestern 1980's "Safety Yellow", CB&Q BURLINGTON,  GREAT NORTHERN,  Northern Pacific paint schemes.

There is always the Polar Bi-Polar or as I like to call it, The Tri-Polar.

Thanks, Marty and nice video!  Perhaps blasphemous to some, but I’ve never really cared for electrics and always found it curious that they picked such a random/obscure locomotive as their only other Legacy PolEx offering. I assume it was done to help meet the MOQ for the prototype road names offered in the catalog release. If not a steamer, I could do an early diesel, but the electric just doesn’t move the needle for me. Again, fun video, especially the intro.

No problem.  I just found it an interesting choice and as you, needed something for the freight cars they have been releasing.  It's my only Bi-Polar and even though an odd choice for the PE I really like it.  I hope you get your PE steamer.

The Bi-polar is a cool locomotive, but I also am not a big electrics fan.  Though it does seem to work well as a freight locomotive.

Lionel seems to usually pick a good engine or two for double duty as a Christmas or Halloween engine.  The Hiawatha in the last catalog, though the images didn’t do it justice, might be a great set.  The E8 Christmas set was phenomenal (I have it, and I absolutely do not regret it).  Now both of these are passenger sets.  A freight engine needs to be a good fit.  My hope is that it isn’t some standard freight loco.  I don’t think that an SD40 or ES44 works at all as the Polar Express.  I see the Polar Express needing a specific engine to haul freight.  I can see an F7 set or maybe SD7/9 high nose.  It can’t be modern.  The story just doesn’t seem to allow for it as it seems to be set in the 1950s.

For a steamer, the F19 might have worked, though they have already pegged that one for their red/white Christmas scheme.  Maybe a Mikado?  Something midrange.  Even a Northern class might be too big.  Anything articulated would look out of place I think and cost too much to market as a Polar Express ‘family” train.

Agreed, Carl. They’ve had some great “double duty” choices, but like you said, for whatever reason (licensing?) they’ve all been generic Christmas trains and not the PolEx. The F19 would’ve been terrific. I almost bought one of the black ones to reletter and then get the sound board from the Christmas version, but decided it was too much work (and $). An F7 set would work.

I also agree with your point about it ideally being a midsize steamer. To me, a great option would be the heavy Mikado. The last release was fantastic (I have the NKP version) and they seem overdue for another appearance.

the way the front is shaped and how the tender looks long it might be a q2 which is bad news for current me a broke college graduate with 20 grand in debt who can barely play with the trains he has, but could be good for future me that landed a film career and has a big hi rail layout depicting the final year of the Fenix Pacific in 2017 before being merged into Mid-National Rail lines

Well,
It could be Q-2, especially if Lionel bought the tooling off of MTH. The caveat is though that several of the blurred images look almost like the tender is a short tender. I believe the Q-2s never had short tenders. Q-1 is to obscure to do a mass release. That's a VisionLine candidate.
If Lionel wanted to be funny, they could be re-releasing the M1a/M1b. Some of them had shorter tenders. The M1 was in last years summer catalogue, so maybe they figure it's quick and easy.
(If any of you like having some fun on this theory, check out the format of last years catalogue on the M1 page, and compare!)

It may not be PRR. Other railroads, like the Great Northern used red roofs occasionally.

i only collect semi scale because scale stuff can be intimidating and over the top. i used to be all about the scale stuff until i saw it in person and realized it wasn't for me

my railroad will be unique in that it will be freelanced and semi scale but have certain weathering and detail found on hi-rail layouts

According to Forbes, Warren's only got about 128b, and that might not be enough spendable for Cody's list. I'd suggest he ask someone who's got north of 150. Perhaps Elon, Jeff, Mark, or the Larrys.

buffett should be enough Unless i decide to build the entire Fenix Pacific system which would probably need a layout twice the size of cornerfield hobby

as the FP had 4 major subsidiaries each with their own equiptment rosters like smaller railroads within the larger Fenix Pacific. my railroad is like an onion layers upon layers

not to mention the FP has HYDRA signals and a 7 way switch and double equilateral switches that need to be custom made as well as the "paranormal" effects like millions of crows that live on the layout.
