When Lionel's Virginian Rectifier set #2505W was re-issued as part of the conventional classics series, many people noted that  the Timken Roller boxcar had the wrong yellow. It was a far lighter shade of yellow than it's postwar counterpart.  But that's not all that was wrong. So what really happened?

I recently purchased the conventional classics set from a forum member, and compared it with the original postwar pieces.  The next two photos show something interesting for those with a keen eye. Can any of you sharp-eyed forum members see what really happened?

BobbyD, that is exactly right...The yellow paint color selections for this set were actually a perfect match to the originals. But the factory accidentally swapped the items receiving each version of yellow. On previous occasions when Lionel messed up so badly on color, they re-issued shells (like the 2343  conventional classic for example). To fix this problem, they would have had to issue new engine and boxcar shells. Not surprising no effort was made to correct this problem. Nonetheless, the engine looks great with the darker yellow, even if the boxcar looks total weird.
